10 Porsches and one traffic stop

Does the guy leading the tour owes his buddies a lot of money? Prolly not but surely a nice dinner.

Reminds me of the day a group of Pelicans were on their way to the German Auto Fest in Ventura. Somewhere north of Malibu on PCH a whole gaggle got pulled over. I think they got written up for 99 MPH in a 65, I could be wrong. But the speed written was just under the go-to-jail-right-now speed. If I could find the post, Jack Olsen said his GPS showed 140 MPH.
That was quite some time ago so I don't know about the GPS technology then, but if Jack says 140, he was likely carrying the mail at least near that speed. |

I can't even fathom that...
I once had my Supra Turbo up to 140 briefly... but in the middle of nowhere in the Okefenokee swamp. Nothing but straight, deserted blacktop and bunches of alligators on each side.... thankfully, not sunning themselves on the blacktop. I was stooooopid in my 20s.... at least I got older

G'day!

The guy leading the brigade wouldn't owe me anything because I wouldn't be one of the ones who got cited.
Do I speed? Of course. 40 over? Hell no. Nor would I "follow the leader" behind anyone else - including other Porsches. As far as I'm concerned - they all got what they deserved.

The two dealership fun runs I've been on had one rule: can’t pass the leader who really doesn’t go much over the limit if at all. The “fun” in the runs is being on roads with 55mph limit but having the yellow recommended limit signs for corners at around 30mph.

I've been on fun runs with the local PCA. There is a subtle pressure to keep up when the lead guy gets a little too aggressive (especially if you are in the middle of the pack). Its even worse if you are someplace where you don't know your way out and don't want to be left behind and lost. That said, I would have to say that I take ownership for my driving. I may not have noticed how fast we are going at 10-20 over but at that speed I would have had to say 'I'm out'.

I remember "dealership fun runs" around Columbus Ohio in my old Datsun/Nissan Z group...most of us were doing 40mph + over the limit at times around I-270, but not organized.

Many years ago on one of the local regional fall tours to Arkansas that I did not participate in, a local sheriff waled into the restaurant where a large group of Porsche drivers were eating. He issued every driver a ticket, even though he only saw a few cars going way too fast.
The drivers had a choice to pay up, and take the points, or hire a lawyer licensed in Arkansas to fight it in a county known to use traffic tickets as a revenue source. Most just complained, and sent the checks. A well run tour has the leader drive the speed limit and not ever speed. If you like to stay at that speed, get in line near the front. If you like to go faster than the speed limit, get in the rear of the pack. You will always be playing catch-up. The one simple rule, you are responsible for the guy behind you. If there is a turn, wait for the guy behind you to see you turning before going on. As long as everyone does that, it is easy and fun. 40 over is insane on public roads. That is handcuff and go to jail in most states.

Former Sheriff the next county over used to brag about it... he had an unmarked black "police race car" with a real Nascar prepped motor.... 150 easy. He was a real POS, darling of the "tough on crime" crowd though... He's now a convicted Felon. Karma.... gotta love it

Back in the bad old days of national 55 MPH speed limit in 1970s an newly elected Alabama state senator was stopped on the interstate in his Cadillac going well over 100. He started yelling at the cop, that he was on the way to the Senate, as was thus above the law. The state constitution did indeed have a clause that a Senator or Representative could not be arrested on the way to the legislature. The State Trooper escorted him to the legislature.
Only when a reporter published the incident in the paper did he decide to drive the speed limit. The clause was put in back when the local Sheriff was arresting members of the legislature to prevent them from getting to the legislature to vote on a bill.

The cops have this thing called radio. And most citizens obey the cops commands.

I never do group runs.
anything done in a group results in 1 It lowers the individual's IQ 2 It increases annoyances to others not in the group It doesn't matter what the group is for, could be cycling, walking , driving, flying, swimming, shooting, whatever Individual IQ suffers in groups, so the average drops. so for instance if IIQ = 100 IIQ1+IIQ2 might still be 100, might even go up a bit... 2 is not really a group. 3.. maybe not even. But IIQ1+IIQ2+IIQ3+IIQ4+IIQ5+IIQ5+IIQ6+IIQ7+II8+IIQ9+I IQ10 Especially when it's about "doing things" not a science project of sorts It sure as hell will not be averaging 100.. Maybe if you're lucky it will be 70 Not giving IQ numbers for real here, just an example of how the dumbing down works. The bigger the group, the lower the number gets. The sensible people can't make up for the dumbasses, so the average drops very fast. So you get 10 people in loud fast cars and an reduced average IQ... I refuse to drive in group.. Group screws up my SA and quite frankly driving only 40 over the limit.. that's no good, I regulary double or even triple the limit... on empty roads.. that I know , when it's empty

Would you volunteer to be chased likely caught and get a trip to jail and your car impounded and lots of points and likely suspended license so some other drivers that are just buddies and not family get away?
