That’s pretty cool! Thanks for the link.

Friend of mine got some new tires on his ~1908 Baker Electric car.

The old Firestone’s are thought to be from around 1930!

I hope they don't play Frisbee around that bulb.

As for tires, my '50 beetle has tires from about 1963 and they're still in great condition. Since the car is so slow I'm not too worried about them blowing. My '66 912 has tires from about 1984 that look just fine. But when I get that car back on the road I'll be replacing them.

At a concours I went to recently a guy had a 1950s Nash Metropolitan that was like a museum piece. He said the tires on it were the ones it was delivered with. The original owner had removed them, and hung them on the wall, and put on different wheels and tires for the road. He had both sets, and had modern safe rubber for actually driving, and the factory original tires for the show.

My '50 sat in a VW dealership showroom for 50 years. It helped to sell the new cars. That's why it has such old tires. They say "Made on Northern Ireland" on the sidewalls.

I wonder what the life span of a modern 60W bulb would be if it was on a dimmer cranked down to the equivalent of 4W.

Long.

No doubt that bulb is remarkable for not ever having a vacuum leak after this long. But it is really dim.

I remember seeing that bulb in my Science text books back when the world was still black and white, and the world was Leave it to Beaver every day.

Mythbusters had an episode about it, and it has been famous a log time. If I sold light bulbs for a living I would want them to burn out after a year or two.

I wonder how many "candle power" it is. People used just one candle to light a room for many centuries. If that bulb is as bright as a candle or just a little more, it would be amazing when new.

It’s incandescent and therefore evil under Kalifornia standards. It has to be replaced immediately with a Chinese-made mercury-filled CFL or $50 LED lamp you know... for the good of the planet.
