My Flag Pole Project
I finished my Flag Pole Project last night.
I used a 2" Galvanized 21' pipe which is 2.375 outer diameter. I purchased flag pole topper, finial, cleat, rope, and flag on Amazon for about $200 total + a pole sleeve which was about $198. I sanded and painted the pole with Steel-It Stainless Polyurethane paint. I purchased an 8"x3" pole sleeve that had to be set in concrete, it had an 18" lightning rod at the bottom so the hole had to be pretty deep. It took 11 60lb bags of concrete and 2 bags of sand. The sleeve is filled with sand and compacted after the pole is set. A finishing disk covers the hole when done. Below are some Photos: Sleeve is larger than pole and is filled with sand after the pole is set and plumbed. ![]() First coat of paint. It was darker than I expected but I like it. ![]() ![]() 18" Sonotube will be cut away after a couple more days of concrete drying: ![]() Lifting this pole by myself was doable but heavy (78lbs). Heavier than a standard alum flagpole but I got this pipe for free: ![]() Tapped into my yard lights and added a spot onto the flag. ![]() My one mistake is that I cut the rope too short. I'm going to order a new one and replace. Last edited by Tidybuoy; 11-05-2020 at 08:32 AM.. |

Looking good. I did something similar but more simple for my weather station. I have a nice flag pole I might put up some day.

I feel like I had the perfect spot. I was either gonna do this or put in a fountain. A fountain would be nice but more difficult and would need regular maintenance as I have a lot of trees (i.e., leaves).
