Sad day for some dude.
I was out driving yesterday and came across two parked police cars with their lights flashing. As I proceeded around I notice a 60's car (I think a GTO) nose first into a guard rail. The front end was crushed. The driver fortunately was out sitting on the barrier as the cops did there business. He was an older gentleman (guessing 70's). I imagine he was at the light, punched it, lost control and went across the yellow line, up over the berm and into the rail (like 50 yards). It was a reminder to me why I don't goof around on public roads. That guy will be thinking about that for a while I'm sure.

We had our last autocross of the year yesterday. One guy was there is some souped up C7 Vette. His right foot was just an off or off switch. He did not understand rolling on the throttle with that much HP. As soon as he could point it sort of straight he just started spinning tires, pedal to the metal. He was not real fast, but he was having fun spinning tires and no ticket to worry about. He never went off course so we let him have his silly fun.

He's lucky. Those classics can be really unsafe. A few years ago a guy ran his Olds off the road and ran front end first in to a tree across the street from my office. The man was ejected from the car and unfortunately didn't survive until the paramedics arrived. The small block and transmission were also torn from the car and found in the bushes about 50 feet from the car.

Had a friend crash his '60 'Vette leaving the gym a few years ago because his master cylinder failed. He was probably doing 20 pulling up to the light to leave the gym, his foot went to the floor, and he had no choice but to bump into the SUV in front of him. He did try to steer to the curb but as he was going slow he had braked too late to give him room to not hit it. Hardly did anything to the SUV but he was going to need some fiberglass work. Stuff fails on old cars sometimes.

Sad story, but sounds like he's ok.
The brakes went out on my 69 TR6 one night. I was able to stop just in time, before hitting a car at the stop light. Nursed it home going slow and using the hand brake. New master cylinder and I was good to go the next day. |

I’ve had my 1969 Mustang for 33 years now. Obviously very different power delivery than the 930. What’s amazing about rolling burnouts is that they seem so harmless and controlled... until they’re not. It’s like wheelies on a bike... what could go wrong. Do it enough and you’ll find out. I watched a vintage Mustang swap ends and slap the pit wall on the track-out at NJMP when he nailed it with cold tires.

No, my good friend owns the flooring store and the car came to rest up against his window just a couple feet from where he was sitting at his desk.

Yikes. Too close for comfort.
I work for the CAT dealer across the street... never really found out what caused the crash.

Probably the last straw of keeping his license. The family will intervene, sell the GTO for scrap, and buy him a mini van with wheelchair access.

May you keep breathing long enough to experience some of the problems of ageing.

Ouch, on all counts recounted in this thread.
That corvette was painful to watch. This one is an oldie , and a little sad, but I don't feel that sorry for the folks involved since I think this has got to be ineptitude and/or alcohol related.

Thank you, CBO's. I had a yellow GTO pull up beside me Sunday at a stop light. Southern Maryland is full of really interesting old American iron. The weather here was akin to San Diego weather which brings out the cool stuff. His GTO (is there a way to know by looking if it is a Judge?) was perfect. He leans over and goes, "Nice LC". Before I can giggle like a school girl the light turns green and he is off in a blur of yellow.
