I came home and all my clothing is piled in the living room.

Phew. At least it didn’t smell like lighter fluid and it wasn’t scattered across the front lawn. I have been fishing a lot.

Apparently we are donating our entire bedroom stuff and buying new stuff. Yippee! (< in green). I must have missed the memo. She pulled out all my stuff so she could photograph it for the charity. She didn’t want the charity to know I fold clothing exactly like how I wad up papers. We are donating it. I think a dust ball and my honey socks can be forgiven.

We bickered for days picking out the last set of furniture. And she won! Haha.

Three words: mid modern century. . Why we can’t wait for the new year; the reasoning escapes me. Holidays, sleep in guest room, pull clothing from a pile...what can go wrong?

My egg nog is gonna be strong this year.

Better the living room than the front lawn.

On fire.

Why does it have to be photographed? Just drive out to one of those dome thing and dump clothes in there. That must be a women thing that I will never understand. Who the heck cares how clothes are folded? I know you are kidding, but for some, its true. When we had a house keeper, she would pre-clean the damn house so the house keeper wouldn't think any ill thoughts of us. Who the hell cares? She's pay to clean, not judge us. I got talking with a friend about this, since they also use the same woman. She happens to be the mother of one of my workmen. His wife panics before housekeeper comes.

Actually had the front lawn happen in the middle of winter. The no-longer Mrs. Beard was mad after I went skiing/snowboarding with my next door neighbor and we stopped for dinner on the way back, after going to a ski sale.

This was before I had a cell-phone (mid 1990s, when they were still a $1/min). My next door neighbor called HIS wife and then had his wife call my wife. We assured me, everything was OK.

What I didn't know, he purposely did all of this to slow us down so he didn't have to go to some event with his wife.

Showed up and everything was on the front lawn.

And I guess I had this happen with the First Mrs. Beard, when she ran off with the guy "she was in love with". I thought the apartment was robbed, until I figured out everything missing was hers.

I do our taxes each year. It's a royal pain to "translate" my wife's list of clothing items into the categories on Turbo Tax It's Deductible. Wife's list items - top, dress, shoes - It's deductible list items - has about 20 different tops, 20 different dresses and 20 different shoe selections! I end up just browsing for the highest value of that type item and pick it as the donated item. We've started taking picture instead - which makes it a bit easier to inventory the list and select the correct item description. We usually donate items to Goodwill every year to some extent, but some years we do the "cleaning of old" and end up claiming several thousand $ in donations, which puts a pretty decent dent in tax liability.

If there is a Room and Board around you, the day after Christmas is their annual floor model sale. First come first served.

Mid Century Modern is the term you're looking for. It's an architectural period style... and everything else from that period, too... furniture, graphic design, etc. Think all the stuff you saw in early episodes of "Mad Men." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-century_modern

She's just getting a jump on furniture to match the renovation. .

It is taken me months to find a new dining room table. The one we have is perfectly good but too big for the space. I hope your wife is quicker picking something out than I am. Good luck.

I know my wife will never pull that trick. Our furniture is mostly her antiques, and a few pieces we (she)bought to fit this house. I can't care less about the furniture or the decor. One reason we moved into this house was to have room for her to get more antiques. That space is full now and she has stopped antique shopping for now.

Most of my clothes are hanging in the closet. I am allowed just two drawers in the master bedroom and that is for socks and underwear and my shorts. Everything else is in the closet. The good news is the closet is enormous. Walk in 8 feet, turn left and go another 14 feet or so.

The garage is MINE to decorate, and I allow her to park her car in there in the middle bay.

It's a fishing tax All will be well, the dust will settle and the Bass will be hungry.

Know your angst all too well. I have returned from many fishing and skiing adventures to find lots of stuff moved around in the house. Ok, fine. BUT, when stuff gets moved around in the garage, I get pizzed as it ends up where it "fits" best on the shelves. I group by purpose and tire of searching for things.

Probably what I should have expected when I married an interior designer.

My wife is going through a faze were she donates her clothes, and then goes to a "retro" store and buys used stuff.
I'm like "whatever" and go hang in the garage.

For me shopping for clothes is just a few steps below getting a root canal. On a purely intellectual level I can understand some people actually enjoy shopping for clothes. Like some people enjoy snow and cold. It ain't for me.

Spending money on furniture replacement just for the sake of something different is just not logical, but it comes down to "yes dear" and happy wife = happy life.

I have one dealer that I work for that specializes in MCM furniture and artifacts. He is very busy with his enterprise as the stay-at-home folks ponder what to do to wake up the ol' homestead.

Frankly, and since I grew up with the end of that era (the basis of MCM design started with the Bauhaus movement in the early part of the 2oth Century), I don't care much for the stuff.

I won't be doing much repairing anymore so I won't miss that style. In reality, it's many times more difficult than conventional vintage and antique furniture. Some of the joinery is pretty trick.
