Anyone have custom clothing (not suits or dress shirts) made?
I had a cotton Dickies jacket years ago that loved. Like a truckers jacket. Apparently I didn’t love it enough not to loose it tho. It was a medium long so it was slim fitting for my skelator type frame. I’ve bought several more cotton jackets through the years but nothing fits right. They’re all just a baggy mess. Thinking of asking the lady who does our regular tailoring if she’d be up for the task.

My wife is tiny. She has a real tough time getting anything that fits right. I keep telling he to get things that are too big and have our "lady" tailor them.
They can do wonders. Our lady used to be attached to a dry-cleaners. The cleaners moved and she now does everything by house-call (or our office).

I agree with Red-Beard. You may be better off buying something long enough for you and then having it tailored to fit. A trucker-style jacket is pretty complex for a tailor to make one from scratch. It's probably hard to find a pattern for one and the layers would require a lot of work and skill.
Even the new "Made to Measure" semi-bespoke tailoring outfits don't really offer a work jacket like that. They stick to easier items like pants and shirts and suits. But you could Google search for "online made to measure" and see what you can find. There are many MTM online shops with good reviews. If they can do the work they will take your measurements by email and mail you the final result, which can be further altered by your local tailor. Or you could go to Styleforum.net (the Pelican Parts Forum of menswear) and see if you could buy a jacket like you wanted through one of their members, or get a recommendation for a good tailor.

Why not just get off the shelf tailored? I have to buy bigger jackets (big shoulders) and get the waist taken in a bit (tapered) by a local seamstress.

I still two pairs of shoes that were custom made for me when I went to Hong Kong while on the USS Enterprise in 1973 and they are as soft as the day I got them. I also have three suit coats and aa set of silk lined motor cycle leathers in a brown color but while in great shape they no longer fit!

Just like a lot of things in life, you up your budget - things 'fit' better. The better brands like Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger, Polo- all are a lot more expensive than say Walmart............obvious. What's not so obvious is just how many more sizes are available. IE: XL shirt in slim fit or extreme slim fit. Or how 'bout large slim fit in a tall size?
It wasn't until some years ago I grew tired of buying ' nice' $40 shirts and spend another $20+ in tailoring. Then I visited Macys (somewhat close to me) and discovered their Mens department covered at least 8000 sqft. Every top brand you can name. You could online and check their website for a jacket you're looking for, but their online inventory does not represent local brick & mortar inventory which is more diverse.

Glad I don't have to think about these things any more. These days I buy my clothes at Tractor Supply.

Ive had the same leather jacket for 25 years.
Got a friend who is a genius with leather work. She even started making her own leather boots. The jacket now kinda embodies the ship of Theseus idea. Im sure theres someone who can make what you want in Houston...

I only buy dress shirts at Van Heusen (outlets) in the US because they offer a selection of collar sizes for each body size. In the UK they don't offer that.

I have had custom made work boots done twice by an old school boot manufacturer. They are the best. The second set was $600 but incredible. I still have both sets but don’t do as much work in the field (on site oil patch) and they are overkill to wear in the shop or office.

I have narrow feet and have a hard time finding shoes that fit me really well. I just recently got a pair of shoes (brown desert boots) that were made for me by Andrew McDonald in Sydney, NSW and oh my God they're wonderful. 10/10 would do again.

One of my wife's cousins is married to a HUGE man. He is 6'6 and has a size 16 shoe. He can find sneakers that big that the NBA players use but they are silly expensive and they are not work boots.
He comes down to Oklahoma City from Kansas to have a man make custom fit work boots and he can wear them all day and not have aching feet. My wife grew up having to make her own dresses and she can sew clothes from patterns, but would rather roll around in poison ivy that make clothes. I just were off the shelf cheap clothes.

i once called a shop about having some AWESOME wool cycling knickers made for me.
i chased down a lady in Napa on my bike to ask her about her pants. they looked old school, and paired with a modern jersey, it was a cool look!! i cant remember the price when i reached out to the company. BESPOKE Cycling, IIRC..and i do remember the price tag slapping me flat in the face. errr...no thanks.

I'll check into having our seamstress modifying one of the jackets I have. My concern with that approach is if the body is changed from something like a 48 down to a 40, will the sleeves be long enough. BTW, this is Houston so no need for a lining, just a simple single layer jacket.
As I'm sitting here laying out my new 930 wiring harness, I'm thinking, "I'm pretty handy, why don't I try to sew my own jacket?"
