There are signs around Waikiki beach for the tourists. Apparently it is a thing. Out away from tourist areas you won't see these signs.

But then again, tourist deaths in general is a thing there. They leave common sense on the mainland when they go on vacation.

I lived there (thanks to the Army) and it was almost a weekly, if not bi-weekly, occurrence. Sadly.

We can shut down the economy, destroy small businesses to save one life from Covid, yet we’re not concerned about almost 500k annual tobacco related deaths. Irony? If NY is so concerned about saving lives why is cigarette sales and smoking legal?

I wonder where the cause of death fit in for old folks who just kind of fade away. My father and father-in-law both just faded away. No Alzheimer's, no dementia, no heart disease. Just wore out.

I doubt anyone is downplaying it much. It has changed everyone's way of life. I did not even have Covid in mind when I started the thread. I just thought it was interesting how many way people die, like coconuts killing people. We all know heart disease is a major killer, and smoking is a major cause of that.

I didn't think anyone died of Alzheimer's. I always thought it was a condition you had (like arthritis, etc) when you died of something else.
