My recollection of Ant's build was it ain't as easy as some might lead you to believe and there was a fair bit of fabrication. I also remember a second donor vehicle being used.

The new "production" kit build seems to not be like that. Now they've got it as the kit plus a single NB miata (assuming good motor, trans, front and rear subframes, wiring harness, and gauge cluster). It seems they were assuming you had an NB miata with a rusty body that was otherwise OK. It had to be a 1.8L and is based off of the NB (second gen). I get the feeling that the production level kit is much more mature than the initial build based on what is said in the new video that I posted.

I did it… I bought a spec miata race car on the weekend. I’ve raced (and won) in a couple sm cars and really like the platform.

Yeah, I would want a euro straight six, Jag, BMW, Merc, whatever. Friend of mine has an OLD Alfa roadster, 1930's maybe, with the twin cam out of a wrecked 1960's Alfa. Original body, not much rust but not much paint either, coolest thing you ever saw. Until you saw his buddy, with the American rat rod, with a Merc straight six, fuel injected.

Tough call, sorry, could not find pic of straight six car, it was Chevy, mid thirties sedan, also with a healthy patina

It could probably be done in a way that was fairly stock looking (Yes, we would all know that a GP car didn't have them, but lots of that sort of car did).

I've often looked at Lotus/Caterham 7 type vehicles and thought about if I'd want cycle fenders vs clamshell. I'd love to be able to see the front tires and suspension working, but I suspect the clamshell would make driving much more pleasant. What I've decided in the past is that if i was to purchase, I'd get both and be able to swap back and forth. I assume that isn't tough.

But, I'd have to assume that the cycle fenders is better than nothing. I did think it was interesting that in the video that I posted, they had the "wings." I wondered "what the hell are those," and it then in the video, they explained that they were added to the Fangio car for when he was in the rain and at opposite lock. So technically, those are probably kind of like the clamshell fenders.

probably the best small sports car ever made. reliable, cheap, excellent to drive. so cheap you can just have one for every motorsport.
