The virus is not going to change my New Year celebrations at all!

I refuse to let the virus change my traditional New Year party celebrations one tiny bit!

For the last 20 years I was in bed lights out by 10:30 and I refuse to change that because of the Covid.

I have not been awake for the new year since 1999-2000 when I stayed up to see if the world was going to end because of Y2K as predicted. Nothing at all happened, so I turned off the lights and went to sleep.

So once again by 10:30 or so, kiss the wife goodnight, turn off the lights and wait until morning to greet the new year for me. How about you, what is your party plan?

Like most people, New Years eve parties were great when I was younger and out drinking at a party, chasing female companionship. I found the perfect lady and married her almost 29 years ago. I do not miss the dating scene one tiny bit. I prefer to have my wife in bed next to each night.

Happy New Year, let us all hope for a better year than 2020.

One thing for sure hindsight will be 2020!

We have a Covid safe couple coming over. The husband joined the Moderna study with me.

I never go to bed before midnight. I also never party my brains out so it will just be another day for me. I think the last time I did party was maybe 1982 ???

The missus and I don't normally do much. We are often up until midnight, but usually reading, surfing or watching something on the tube. Tonight we will be out at our country property enjoying the peace and quiet of the country.

At my old house I had a neighbor that was obsessed with fireworks - the big, illegal ones like mortars and things. I rather enjoyed those on 4th of July, but he and his pre-teen daughter, who both seemed about the same level of emotional maturity, would fire them off cackling with laughter from midnight to about 2 in the morning every New Years. It drove my dogs and my wife crazy. It would be quiet for 20 minutes and you'd think they were finally done and then BOOM another round.

Tomorrow, in my new, much more rural neighborhood, I'll be in my neighbor's goose blind by 7 am. So yes, I'm going to bed early, too

At my old house the neighbor behind me and down hill a bit liked to have mega loud parties, and fire off fireworks at midnight. The cops always showed up to his parties often more than once. The 2 AM fireworks was the last straw for me.

Due to the elevation my backyard overlooked his bedroom window. I suddenly needed to tune up my chain saw, and weed eater at 8:00 AM. Two of my neighbors came over and needed my guidance on tuning their chain saws. Finally we all ran them together. I am sure Mr. Fireworks-party dude enjoyed the serenade. The neighbor on the other side of him started up his weed eater as well.

New years eve 2000. I bought a black on black 4 speed z 28 that day . It was loud, duals glass packs, big lumpy cam etc . No way, I could resist taking that car, it was a new toy . I was already into Porsche, but would still swing muscle cars occasionally .
It did keep blowing the dash/taillight fuse that day . I must have put 4 fuses in , and just did not have time to look for the short . I rolled with it anyhow .
We were going to a swanky party in an upscale neighborhood of the city that evening. Friends of the family, he was some high up attorney. Big beautiful old city house, catered party, bartender, band ice luge for champagne etc. All wealthy professionals etc. I was out of my element, and a little bit nervous, and ended up drinking a little more than I should have .
I shut myself down at midnight, because I had to drive home . I drank some coffee, and waited till about 1, then my gf, and I ( now wife) got in the car to head home.
It was an easy 10 minute drive, but I decided to stay off the main roads, because I had been drinking. I tried to sneak through a few smaller towns, and neighborhoods, and avoid the inevitable dui check points
Damn fuse pops, and and I loose my taillights again . I am about 3 minutes from home, when I pick up a city cop . He follows me for about a half mile, and lights me up.
I am getting my affairs in order, while he is walking up to the car. Im positive I am headed to jail for the night, I was still drunk . My girlfriend is super pissed at me and yelling and I am just sitting there ****ting myself, thinking I had just really fked up . Im trying to hand her all my cash so she can come bail me out, all he while she is screaming at me . It was a complete chaotic situation .
I admitted to drinking to the officer, and explained how I had just purchased the car that day, and had the tail light problem . He made me do the stupid human tricks, but did not breathilize me .
I don't know if he felt sorry for me, or liked my car, or if I was just that good at hiding my drunk, and he bought my line of BS, but he asked me if I thought I was alright to drive, and sent me on my way .
That was my last new years eve party . I quit drinking altogether a few years later, and its pretty rare if I make it to midnight any more .

I can’t tell you the last time I made it to midnight. Or midnight EST to watch the stupid ball drop in NYC. We are going out to dinner with another family, will have some drinks and some laughs, and likely be home before 10.

this is the year for fire works
the neighbors started before turkey day
and have been escalating the bangs and booms recently every night

it does not bother me but my dog and her cat do not like the noise
my last dog loved fire works she wanted to jump on ground displays
current dog wants to run and hide and her cat is worse totally freaked out and complaining at every boom
I have never had a cat react to fireworks like that

Same as OP, lights out at 10pm or whenever I crash. A young friend asked me the other day if I had any plans for NYE and I explained that even when I was young and worked in nightclubs, NYE was the one night of the year when I did not mind staying in. It's an awful night to be out.

I remember NYE parties in HS that sucked, back when every other party of the year was fun. I'd go to 100 parties a year and almost all were fun except the big NYE party where someone rented out a ballroom and everyone got dressed up, drank too much cheap booze and puked on their date.

To be completely fair, I do have one fun NYE memory when I was running the front of the house for a restaurant in 1991/92. We were open for food until 1am every night but on New Years eve, we closed early to the public and had a private party for friends and invitees only. Our chef started making breakfast for everyone around midnight and Herbie Hancock set up in one corner w his ensemble and provided the entertainment. It was a popular destination for a lot of music people in town any night but that night we had the heaviest of hitters, Clapton, U2, lots of movie people, etc. A memorable night and I remember it because I wasn't drinking!

Excellent! I hope his hangover was particularly acute that day.

Pretty much the same here...no more boogie nights left for the old couple that lives here. For some reason I stay up late, but no booze. All my drugs prescription. Hey, I still drink coffee.

Better drive fast! I can't guarantee there will be a plate of food or beer left when you get here! But I'll try.
