I agree, that wasn't a race up front. The only racing was in the middle of the group. Mick took a big hit. Wonder what must have broken.

According to his post race interview, he was just pushing too hard, so driver error.

Funny to read twitter and other social media F1 today...

The entire British press: " Max should be banned for life"

The rest of the world: "They both slowed down, Lewis didn't want to pass him to give him DRS, Then max braked more and Lewis hit him, they are both idiots"

;-)

Yep, that about sums it up.

In post race interviews Hammy kept touting his extensive driving experience (28 years) in dealing with what could be described as aggressive race drivers.

My question to him then is: if you have all that experience, then how is it that you were 'confused' about what Max was doing? You've passed hundreds if not thousands of drivers over the course of your career. When you come upon another driver that is slowed (for whatever reason) you've always just wizzed by and made the pass. Why not this time? Why was this so vexing?

I'm pretty certain he was on the radio claiming the pass was off track. Isn't it reasonable to expect the other driver to give back the position? Pretty sure that he was demanding such to his team.

When other teams swap their running order on track it is 'interesting tactics' when Bottas does it, it is being a good teammate. Ditto for 'Rules are rules' except when he makes the infraction then it is usually unfair.

Oddly enough this afternoon after making a right on red turn, another driver suddenly slowed in front of me. Even more odd was that I just went around them; gave them a look and kept on going.

In my poor estimation if Ham had simply hit the gas hard — that with reaction time and circumstances, Vers would not have fallen back in within one second. Not on that part of the track nor for that lap. Whatever happens after that is racing. But two clowns out there playing chicken with who can go the slowest should put them BOTH at the back of the field in Abu Dhabi. Then we will see who can drive.

And give the other 18 drivers a chance to play in the game even if only for a corner or 2.

I wonder if HAAS will have enough spare parts for both cars in Abu Dhabi.

That's a great idea. Too bad the maFIA and stewards already absolved Hamilton of any wrong doing (as usual).

Read an article online , Gunther Steiner said they have enough parts but nothing extra . They are whipping those nags across the finish line 😋. I really really hope the Haas 2022 car is much more competitive .

If it's not then I don't think we'll be seeing them in 2023. Here's hoping they've got something good in the works.

Steiner has been perfectly clear they were throwing everything including the kitchen sink at the development of the 2022 car. They have had additional help from Ferrari and engineers from Ferrari have transferred to Haas . They supposedly have all the tools needed to engineer/develope a competitive car .

Gene Haas is no dope , I am sure he has several contingency plans in place . I am sure there is an escape clause as an example to sell the team for X amount to Mazepins father . Or a possible takeover by Ferrari as a factory sister car team . Big $$$ in F1 moves mountains 😊

Maza-spin certainly would not be a F1 driver without daddies big bucks. He is a second per lap slower than Schumacher, and rarely finishes a race. Yea, it is a pitiful car, but he should at least be close to his teammate's time.

I've worked with quite a few of the Haas guys, many in senior positions, the team has bought in lots of reinforcements for the 2022 car, many are ex-Ferrari that have transferred across due to the cost cap restrictions, they're all very good people

Even if Haas do the best car they can I doubt they'll be able to finish any higher, the team just doesn't have the resources or facilities as Williams and Alfa Romeo. I doubt they have an equal budget too.

That's before you factor in the disadvantages from the fragmented locations of the different divisions within the team which as an operational model for an F1 team just sucks IMHO

Yes, I believe so, Dallara is in Parma just over an hour from Maranello where the design office and wind tunnel are located

Race team HQ is in Banbury in the UK, this might also include vehicle performance engineering and race strategy too. I'm not sure what part if any of the team is in the USA or where the simulator is, that's if they have one

F1 is difficult enough when everything is in the same building or one site, anymore distance involved means the processes involved in creating/fixing a car take longer which means loss of car performance

I went back and looked at Haas season results. They were 5th in constructors' in 2018. That was their 3rd season. Not too bad. But holy crap they have fallen since then.

The Wiki still shows the actual HQ as being co-located with the NASCAR (sucks) HQ in Kannapolis NC.

I seem to recall Gene Haas being none too happy in recent seasons of Drive to Survive, as if he was considering pulling the plug. Wonder how much longer he will commit to this project at its current spiral.

As they say; "the best way to make a small fortune in motor racing is to start with a large fortune"

Want to know what it's like to race an open-wheeler in the rain??

Put on three layers of clothes, lay down in a shower set on maximum cold, and tear up $100 bills....

He wasn’t confused, just given VER’s tendencies to be erratic, I think prudently stayed behind until VER stopped moving to see where the space would be. Then VER hit the brakes. Kinda like following a weaving nutcase on the freeway, give him space until it is clear you can get by

Its awesome that the driver of the day was also the most penalized driver of the day. IMHO, its a sad commentary on the mindset of the typical F1 fan.
