Spam call and vehicle warranty?? why???

WTF is up with all these endless spam robocalls about "your vehicles warranty 400 times a day?? I just dont get it what is the purpose??

I almost would be happy to go back to all the calls from Botswana and Zambia..

I don't get the big increase either but if they get just a few unsuspecting folks (usually targeting the elderly) then it pays off for them.

I've been getting just a few but my DD is only two years old and has a six year warranty. How stupid do people have to be? If you sit through the call till the end there is an opt out (of future calls) option. Pressing the opt out option can possibly lead to more calls.

Something to keep in mind about answering robocalls (don't answer them in the first place!), if you start speaking, even to a recording, they can record your voice and use it as an electronic signature for authorizing charges via the phone.

If you haven't already - register you phone number on the donotcall.gov site. It will help somewhat.

It is infuriating.

I block every one of those calls and it has seemed to help.

They can record me saying 'Fukc You" as much as they want.

The other day when I got one of these calls I waited until someone answered and figured I would see if I could figure out what the catch was. I decided beforehand they would not get a name or any other personal information. A foreign sounding accent asked for the year, make, and model of the car. When I said "1987 BMW 535" he acted like he did not quite understand. I waited through a few seconds of silence and then asked "did you get that?" He then asked again for the year, make, and model. I again answered, this time slower and more deliberately enunciated, "1987 BMW 535". He then mumbled something as he was hanging up that I could not make out. What is it with these people? Don't they want my business?

Yep, been getting one or two calls a day as a "last chance warning" to renew my car warranty. My newest car is 2013, but haven't had a warranty of any kind for 25 years on any vehicle.

It sickens me that these lazy fools (refusing to work a real job), are taking advantage of the elderly, and the gullible with money making scams.

I don't let them get a single word in, then try to sell them a membership to the international association of Trailer parks, traier park supervisors, and assistant trailer park supervisors .
I always make sure to tell them to have a blessed day

I get them too. I stop getting google listing as soon as I learn to not answer them and block the number. They bomb me with a fe more the next couple days, that's it until I pick up again. I am like you, never know if its a new client or not. Way I look at it, its nice to hear a real person's voice instead of leaving a voice message especially if they are talking with the owner of the business. Yep, service industry, sucks in someways?

I don't answer them. If not in my contact list I figure they'll leave a message if important.

If I call the number back, it never connects if one of these.

I've had no less than 20 last warnings in the last two weeks.

I also had suspicious activity on my Amazon account that the phone number they called... is not linked to.

Here's my take on the situation: the telephone service providers, by making money putting these calls through, are profiting from criminal acts and should be prosecuted.
I think the problem would go away fairly quickly after that.

Someone has to making money on that spam phone calls. The phone companies with the help of the FCC could stop them dead. Simply eliminate the spoofing of telephone numbers. I have received phone calls that show up as MY own phone number.

Simply make it a law or a rule that is one receives a phone call, the caller ID is going to be accurate. Also any Google Phone number will call back to the real phone number.

I know that puts a slight burden on some doctors that want to call a patient about a real issue, and they don't want the patient to have their personal phone number. That is an issue that can be worked around.

UGH! I have been getting them regularly for a while Pick up once in a while just cuz.. Never had an extended warranty and never will but, somehow, my warranty is due to expire.

I have had some fun in the past with female telemarketers. After their intro I tell them that they sound really hot and wet and suggest oral sex. They hang up and never call back. Not PC and I do not care as it solves the problem very quickly. It infuriates my wife.

The men, I just tell to F off and leave me alone. Also infuriates my wife.

Yep, they are getting good, they spoof numbers that have recently called, me, or numbers that I have recently dialed, usually only one digit off .
It is super aggravating. I will be knee deep , holding a transmission or something, rip half the skin off my arm, set down all my tools, run over to answer the phone , and ....... another google call . 5 times a day, every day . Been going on for years,

The ONLY way we can do anything is to call or write your congressman. If they get enough pressure from the voters to fix something one of them might introduce a bill to fix it. Then if enough other representatives get voter pressure, they will vote to fix it. Unlikely to happen, but if enough citizens took action it will.

Thanks - I needed a laugh today!

The biggest problem is technical, not legislative - how do you even catch them? These are paying customers, so the telcos don't have much incentive to do anything. Another part of the problem is significant percentage of the calls originate from outside the US - good luck getting them to comply with US laws.

I believe it is an incredibly high profit product, and generally sold to low information people.
