That poor woman simply got crushed! I don't think I've ever seen a contestant go over $5K in the hole before...

A few months ago with Levar the new negative record was set, -$7,400.

They fall behind, get desperate, start guessing.

A great interview with Matt

^^^ It would be so great to see him break Ken's record.
I doubt that it will happen...but it could.

$83k today. Insane money.

Not only that, it was such an easy final jeopardy clue:

“Nazi Germany annexed this nation and divided it into regions of the Alps and the Danube; the Allies later divided it into four sectors.”

He said Poland, not Austria. Alps and Danube in Poland? Didn't he ever watch The Sound of Music?

Did he do it on purpose? Got tired of the whole thing and wanted to take his money and run?

Sort of looked that way.

He definitely seemed off the whole game, IMO. Anyway, it was a great run and he seems like a likable enough guy. Good for him...

I realize there will taxes to be paid on the winnings, but I wonder if Jeopardy lays claim to another part of it?

I'll bet his take home after taxes is a lot less.

1990C4S 10-12-2021 07:03 AM

He looked disinterested, and I wondered if he was intentionally buzzing in late...he also appeared to give up mid-way through.

Then he got the final answer wrong, a pretty easy question. Weird.

Or two good players beat him.

Either way it's over.

mattdavis11 10-12-2021 07:15 AM

Ken paid him to go away quietly.

stevej37 10-12-2021 10:27 AM

He prob called it quits...not wanting to get called for a part in 'The Chase' or 'Master Minds'
That's where the other big winners ended up. (Ken, Buzzi, James)

I don't think he is comfortable talking in front of crowds.

I think he did, and he's not the first to do so either. I felt that James Holzhauer also took a dive at some point too. On his last appearance, he looked rather 'sheepish' when he lost the match. I didn't think it was because he was embarrassed about losing, but that he was feeling weird about having to throw the game. Ken Jennings also seemed to choke on what should've been a no-brainer for him in Final Jeopardy to end his run.

Maybe ratings have something to do with it. When a contestant first begins a big-money run, I would imagine that the show's ratings go up. But after seeing that same contestant continue to crush the competition day after day, maybe people start to tune out and cause the ratings to slip. That's when the producers might ask them to step aside so the regular turnover of all three contestants can resume. Just a guess on my part...I still enjoy the show, no matter what.
