Lots of rural buildings are made of wood. Is that fire resistant timber ?
Does it have a shop which have combustibles stored ?

Every other year or so, something like this happens.

Once again, I concur.

I don't buy the 50% failure rate but any system without proper testing and maintenance is destined to fail.
I absolutely agree on single family systems. Damage exceeds their life safety benefits. Teach your family to evacuate and pay for a good fire department.
BTW, there isn't a single code in the books that somebody isn't making bank from.

there have been a couple points made about a sprinkler system and it effectiveness on a hill and the wood construction.

a tank and some pumps to move the already at the top of the hill water to the sprinkler system seems like a relatively inexpensive proposition considering value of the contents.

the wood construction poses no great challenge for a well designed fire suppression system specifically designed for the building.

it's a toss up i guess... do you want your collection burned or flooded with water damage??
