Will it ever stop raining?

I just want my yard to dry out. I think I'm losing some of my new plants to being over-watered.

We've had something like 10 inches of rain in the last 2 weeks. June averages 5 in. July averages 4 inches. So we are about ~4 times normal.

And it is about to rain again.

To coin a phrase from the Captain Obvious School of Observation: All weather is local.

Until two months ago, the previous 18 months were an absolute quagmire here. Tractors stuck, sump pumps running day and night, etc.

So, I feel your pain.

Watch out for skeeters after the rain stops!

James, can I call you at work tomorrow? I have some questions I'd like to ask.

I bought some of the granules on Amazon with the "BTI." After the rain we had the other day I wandered around the property and sprinkled them in any standing water.

We're lucky, our property drains pretty well. We have a ravine that runs into the Harvey Creek South Fork which then runs into the Colorado River (Texas edition).

The only really nice and unusual side effect of rain that we've had is the unusually cool summer that we've had so far. It's July and it's 76º*outside. There have been years that I've lived here where we probably had 2-3 summer months where it NEVER got as cool as 76º. It's not unusual for our low temps in the summer to be 80º.

If the Leveee breaks, the people DOWNSTREAM will have a bad day. I'm more worried about the levee not breaking.

And right now, the rain is delaying my flight and several others at IAH....

Very wet Houston summer indeed.

Although I finally got around to replacing the vacuum breaker on my sprinkler system (thankfully my only plumbing casualty of the Texas Freeze of '21), I still have yet to water the yard as it's been completely unnecessary. I guess the water savings paid for the plumbing repair, so there's that.

True. I'm not really complaining, though it's a very steamy 76 degrees.

Hey....we could still use more rain here.
The mowing is down to once every 10 days. The grass is not dark green.

And out west, we are starting a bad fire season.

In all of the 20th century, there were 6 "megafires" (over 100,000 acres) in Oregon.

In 2000-2019, there were 16.

In 2020-July 2021, there have been 6.

What we wouldn't give for rain.
