Cats are bastards

We have a barn cat that lives in a heated shed. We lock him in every night.

The shed happens to be our water building which has our cistern and the pressure switch for the well pump as well as the jet pump that feeds the house from the cistern.

This summer, Blizzard (the cat), figured out how to remove the cover from the cat door and escape during the night. I dealt with this by rigging up a 1” x .25” cross bar over the cat door cover that is held in place with a hair pin on each side. Numerous times, we have gone to let him out in the morning to find the cover lifted up half way but not enough for el bastardo to escape.

His latest trick is opening the man door. I have no idea how he turns the knob, but he does. We come out in the morning to find the door open.

This is a fair weather cat. He doesn’t venture out below -10C, and rarely goes out in the rain. Last night at -40, he decided to open the door. Not like he would venture out at these temperatures... he is a bastard.

We woke up this morning to the entire water system frozen cockstiff. The pump case split.

The pressure switch for the well pump is also frozen so it keeps wanting to run. The pressure has overcome the float valve in the cattle waterer so we have a creek over there. I replaced the guts to the float valve and float in -32C weather before I realized that was happening...

We just got the water flowing to the house again a few minutes ago. The well pump switch is still frozen. It warms up a bit tomorrow. The cows will have to eat snow for a day or so until we get this sorted and can turn the well pump back on...

Imagine doing all this on crutches with one working leg...

Here is little bastardo...

Cats hate closed doors. Or really being on the other side of a closed door. Unless they are half-way between the inside and outside of a door. Like love that.

I'd suggest letting him use the cat door...in and out as he pleases.

That was the conclusion of the day. I’d the coyotes get him, we can always get another... this was a $400 touch today.

Your idea of "fair weather cat" is very different than our outdoor feral's idea of "fair weather cat". She doesn't venture out of her little heated home below, oh, 60F, and rain of any kind, even a slight mist is verboten. -10C? She would literally curl up and die just thinking of that.

Cats only have one job! - To look good. That's it.

This is my "Pou Chumley"... Yes he's a "basterd" but he doesn't attack birds or my chickens. If anything he protects them. I think he understand they're important to me.

So basically you’re hating on an animal because you trap it - a territorial animal with a need to prowl and explore - and then it has the audacity to try to get out and do what its instincts demand?

Some of you guys are just jerks and lack any sense of empathy or compassion for living creatures. Maybe it’ll revisit you someday and you’ll know what it’s like. Karma is a beyatch.

I knew I shouldn’t have clicked on this thread fearing I’d be disgusted and some of you certainly lived down to expectations. Congrats. People who hate and believe it’s okay to be cruel to (or kill) animals just for yucks can eat a bag of dicks as far as I’m concerned. Rant out.

There is no way for me to post a picture in green font.

I was joking.

I agree with the final decision to let it roam and if it gets eaten, NATURE.

Lighten up Francis.

No more cats for us. Ours is getting older, once she is gone, no more little box, blook blook , or scratched furniture, dead birds, rabbits, and squirrels dialy, and smelling like a cat lady .

We do barn cats only now...our last house cat died a few months ago. We get the bard cats for free. The get in and out of the tack room via a window that other critters can't climb. They have covered bedding and do just fine.

They are phenomenal mousers.

Leave the pet door accessible for the little basterd.

If the coyotes get him, there's a whole bunch more at the shelter for free.

Maybe the next one will be a better fit. If not...there's a whole bunch more free ones at the shelter.

Oh my gawd! Where is the hate coming from POP?

We have had this guy for 4 years and he’s a good cat, very smart. We took this cat from the shelter because they couldn’t otherwise find a suitable home for him - he bites. He is very affectionate and when you pat him, he purrs and purrs and purrs, and then sometimes he BITES really, really hard, and then keeps on purring like nothing happened.

He knows the routine and goes to bed every night when we call him. He has a warm place to sleep at night, unlike most other farm cats.

This little bit$ch forced me to change all our old-style circular knob actuated dimmer switches to a touch sensitive type as she
figured out how to turn the ones she could reach. She also knows how to pull down the flush lever in the w/c's which tends to
be a bit disconcerting at 3:00 am. A little ball of entertainment - most times.

Cheers

Huh. I thought the brass was for the coyote, not the cat.

My dad is the neighborhood crazy cat lady. I know which one between the cat and the coyotes, would get the dirt nap. And it's not the cat.

It becomes and endless game with the damn yotes....

The brass was for neither and in hindsight I needed to post that it was a joke before it triggered some folks.
