I agree...George and Kramer made that show. George & Jerry's parents were gold too...

And I'll throw LT. Gil Hanley from Combat! under the bus with the rest...

Hated the whole crew of Deep Space Nine, life on a space station, Whats the point? Bill Bixby on My favorite Martin, he was good on the Hulk, stunk on the Martian. The whole stinking cast of That 70's show, I think I saw 4 or 5 episodes of it and hand to hit the remote. The list is never finished, good topic though...

I don't see 'Reverend Jim' Ignatowski from 'Taxi' on this list.

Racerbvd 03-27-2021 01:04 PM

Definitely Alan Harper and Mike from All in the Family, he is still a meat head.

..what's not to like about Doc Brown?

Joe Bob 03-27-2021 01:11 PM

Marlon Brando and Burt Reynolds, should have hung it a lot earlier.

you think the guy from the searchers and the quiet man couldn't act?

i would nominate any character written by david e kelly or aaron sorkin. and everyone on any law and order show. though most of them barely qualify as characters. they're like video game avatars where you just kept hitting default.

Exactly. I loved Iggy, a lot of people did; he made a fair to middling show better, but that list Fast Freddy put together seemed to contain every fun and interesting counterculture character that I ever liked, so I thought I'd throw his name out there.

He's a 944 owner. Have some sympathy.

I don't get the hate for Angela Lansbury. One of our last surviving 1940's actresses, few and far between,

And hey, she was Elvis's Mom in Blue Hawaii, that counts for something.

But playing the "antagonist" well in any production is an art. The person you love to hate. I think there's one above all others.

"Alice Pearce was diagnosed with terminal cancer before Bewitched began. She kept her illness a secret, although her rapid weight loss was quite evident during the second season of the sitcom. She died from ovarian cancer toward the end of the second year of Bewitched at the age of 48."

I think we like the same shows. I am also thinking Fast has no sense of humor at all.

Seinfeld never would have grown like it did without him.

"George" simply annoyed me... But "Newman" was hysterical! :D

I think you guys are missing the point, we were supposed to not like some of those characters. IE, frank Burns, Shelley Long on Cheers, etc.

exactly.

Interesting thread, intereting insight.

For me it is Marshall Dillon: The fact that he never bent Miss Kitty over his desk made me lose all respect for him.

I am a simple man.

Oh my goodness no.....usually Paul you and I are simpatico, but on this one you are all wrong!

Matt Dillon is my freaking hero! One of the coolest cats ever to grace the network!

He was the epitome of what a lawman should be. Ruled with an iron fist but with a sense of fairness like none other I have ever known.

Here is a favourite scene I video taped of his famous backhand this time administered to "tough guy" character actor Richard X. Slattery.....:p

John Cleese is cool. Quiet and un assuming. Kathy Ireland was in my PTA. Always wore sweat pants and no makeup. Married to a Doctor who was high up muckety muck for Cottage Hospital. The 10,000 pound Gorilla in that town.

I've tipped a few beers with Cleese at Brophy Brothers in Santa Barbara, his daughter was a manager there.

KFC911 03-28-2021 07:24 AM

Don't be dissin' Mathew ...
we'll go all Festus on ya!

Alan H.... most anybody on Happy Daze .... including Opie :D

The Synergizer 03-28-2021 08:34 AM

James Arness 6' 7"

What kind of idiot would pick a barfight....

Baz, Bubbi, I was kidding. Love me some James Arness. I still watch a few episodes a year.

And Amanda Blake was stunning:

OK Pablo.....that's more like it. ;)

Agree on Amanda Blake. The early episodes she had the sexiest eyes in the business!

I never watched Gunsmoke when it first aired. But as I entered my semi-retirement years and all the oldie but goldie shows have re-appeared on the classic networks.....I find some of them to be an oasis in the face of our continued societal devolution.

Gunsmoke is an acquired taste for some, I'm sure, but after watching almost every episode now, it's easy to see why it lasted so long.

Bit of trivia.....most here probably know Arness's brother was Peter Graves but did you know he had a son named Rolf who won the World Championships in surfing in 1970?

BTW....Rolf kept the original spelling Aurness.

Quote:

In 1970 Rolf Aurness won the Surfing World Championship at Bells Beach and his father James Arness the Hollywood actor (he featured in the tv western drama 'Gunsmoke' as Marshall Matt Dillon) travelled with him to Victoria (Australia). The pair surfed at Bells in the lead up to the event. This footage from John Bennett's film Blue Cool shows James Arness surfing Bells on his Bing Foil.
