A hybrid with a supercapacitor instead of a battery!

Haha, that's quite clever. So if they mandate it that all vehicles on the road need to be electric or at least hybrid, they can say "Yup, that's me."

^^^ yes...but it has a capacitor driving the electric motor, instead of batteries.

And it's the gasoline engine that loads up the capacitor.

Yep. Just like fossil fuels predominantly create the electrons that charge EVs.

I've been waiting for almost 20 years for supercapacitors to be commercially viable. I'm guessing we're still waiting...

The energy density is no more than 10Wh/kg. Compare that with 300Wh/kg for advanced Li-ion batteries.

Yes the power capability is very high, but supercapacitors on their own cannot deliver that power for any sustained amount of time.

They can be a good power buffer in combination with Li-ion batteries, but will never replace them.

On its own, the naturally aspirated V-12 supplies a hefty 774 horses. Supplementing the engine is a 48-volt electric motor that adds 34 horses and is integrated into the car's seven-speed automated manual transmission.

What is the contribution of the supercapacitor and these 34 horses to the fuel savings of this vehicle? Not very much apparently.

Despite its hybrid powertrain, the Sián continues to be environmentally offensive. The EPA estimates the electrically assisted V-12 will guzzle 8 mpg in the city and 14 mpg on the highway.

Because they are terrible at storing energy and cannot replace batteries for that purpose.

In the real world I'd prefer the Fit.

But if I was a 20 something, trying to impress a chick in a bar, well...

It would be worthless in a Michigan winter.
Two..maybe three inches of clearance and too wide to follow in others tracks.

I doubt snow tires would even fit in there.
