A crack in my new spoon?
Picked up the new spoon (S&W 357) today and was taking a closer look tonight.
Please tell me this line is not a crack in the frame! ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by A930Rocket; 05-15-2021 at 05:19 PM.. |

Go to the LGS and look at another one to see if they all have it. Also, send the pic to S&W customer service and ask them.

I also noticed another line (see circled area) but I am not familiar with that particular revolver to know if this is normal or not.
![]() Edit: Looks like Arizona 928 beat me to it. Edit #2: maybe take the grip off that side and see where that line goes? No matter what, I'd want to know it is supposed to be there and would start with looking at another one at the LGS AND contacting customer service.

Mine has a seam in the same place. I think it is the side plate, but now I'm wondering...

Ok...The panic has subsided.
I like to ask you guys before I look elsewhere, because of the vast knowledge here. Looking online, it looks like a side plate as mentioned. ![]() |

I'm taking it that you guys are all new to revolvers, S&W's in particular.
The purpose of these "cracks" were perhaps more obvious when they still used the fourth screw to capture the side plate: ![]()

Welcome to the club! I think you will have a lot of fun. As an aside, I find it interesting just how many shooters today have never fired, much less owned, a revolver. When I started shooting, revolvers were pretty much all anyone used. It was very rare to see anyone break out any kind of an autoloader, and when they did, it was pretty much always a 1911.
Prepare to be spoiled... revolvers are (at least tot me) much more suited to plinking and general range use. Especially for a guy who reloads - no groveling around on the ground looking for those stray pieces of brass. They just fall out right into your hand. Beyond that, they will accept a broader variety of loads, since they are not dependent upon recoil to cycle. And their triggers - especially quality revolvers like your Smith - are just so, so much better than what can be achieved on any autoloader. I also just find them easier to shoot well. That's all very personal, of course, and I'm sure it's because I grew up with them. The ergonomics just suit me better. Plus, it's very easy to change the size and shape of the grip to fit your hand better, since there is no magazine inside. The two shown in my pic both wear custom grips, the Model 19 from Steve Herrett and the Model 29 from Eagle Grips. As a pretty cool bonus, Steve will make them to fit your hand, if you follow the directions on his web site and send him a trace of it. So, well, again - welcome to the club. Have fun.

I’m a much better shot with my SAA’s and a deadeye with my High Standard Sentinel. Could be cause I enjoy shooting them and they get shot more than my 1911.

Well, with Remington back on line and shipping ammo, and the demand slowing (most folks have finally run out of room in their garages and are tired of parking outside), many are predicting a return to normal soon. We'll see.

BulkAmmo has 38 and 357 for about $1 per round. I thought about getting some of both and seeing what happens down the road.
