Bill Maher has tested positive for COVID-19, despite being fully vaccinated.

Comedian Bill Maher has tested positive for COVID-19, despite being fully vaccinated.

The political humorist said he “feels fine” but decided to halt the taping of his talk show “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday, according to Variety.

No other staff or crew members on the program have tested positive, the outlet reports.

The news comes hours after New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres became the latest member of the baseball organization to test positive for the virus, despite also being inoculated.

Eight Yankees employees are now among the thousands of Americans who have been diagnosed with “breakthrough positives cases”

“COVID-19 vaccines are effective and are a critical tool to bring the pandemic under control. However no vaccines are 100% effective at preventing

Yes, you can get Covid, but the vaccines are 100% effective in preventing serious illness and greatly reduce the chance of transmission. I know a couple people that have tested positive after vax, one felt mildly ill, the other was asymptomatic.
Reason enough. Beats the crap outta being on O2

About 95% effective against original strain. Currently, about 120,000,000 fully vaccinated. Only about 6,000,000 more breakthrough cases upcoming.

My son was fully vaccinated in January and tested positive in April.

He had zero symptoms, and was off work for ten days per the policy of his employer. It seems unlikely he really was positive.

But his makes for great anti-vax news, so keep posting half stories like this.

This is why, btw, the flu vaccine is typically somewhere in the neighborhood of 50% effective on a given year. Viruses mutate and the vaccine isn’t effective against some of the mutations. Yet another reason why advertising the vaccines as being key to our “return to normal” is a load of BS. Vaccines are the key to pharmaceutical companies making a LOT of money, with a likely recurring stream for years to come. Return to normal is when people decide they are done with this entire mess.

Cross posting this from the Yankees thread:

The real issue with the PCR test is the over sensitive nature. The vaccine does not prevent you from being exposed. But it trains your body to deal with the virus quickly and efficiently. You never develop enough virus to be a transmitter.

BUT BUT BUT, the PCR test at 40 cycles is multiplying the amount of virus RNA by a Trillion. (2 to the 40th power). It can pickup the tiny amount of virus in a vaccinated person who is exposed.

For people who have been vaccinated, the Antigen test is a much better choice. It only goes positive if you have a full infection.

These are "cases" where using the PCR test is not appropriate.

As an another alternative, the PCR test can be used, but you need to supply the cycle data. Someone who tests positive at cycle 20 has 1 million times as much virus as someone who tests positive at cycle 40.

Who cares? Lets see if he gets sick.

If he doesn't get sick then the vaccine is doing its job...

Exactly. I get the flu vaccine so that I don't die of influenza, not to avoid a runny nose.

Yep, and on this aspect the J&J is on par with the others.

Keeps you from getting really sick and out of the hospital.

My 86 year old dad tested positive also. He was vaccinated early on. He was tested twice as he has no symptoms. He is in assisted living and one of the workers had it, so they tested everyone. 6 had it with no symptoms.

But unfortunately they put him in quarantine for 10 days.
