Flu shots are a crapshoot. Epidemiologists are guessing it will be xxyz this year, so they make the vaccine for xxyz. However, if you contract xyzq, you are SOL.

Yep, this is a thing that's known.

As Bryan said, the virus guys say "I'm pretty sure this year we're getting variation XYZ!" so the industry whips up a batch of "Flu vaccine, XYZ variant." If that year has or also has variant PDQ, then a bunch of folks are screwed despite getting the vaccine because it won't help with the version they got.

Same as you keep hearing about the different variants of CV19.

I didn't get a flu shot for 20 years. Took one last year after getting the flu 2x. Then I got it the 3rd time. Only took the shot because my doc said I better get it because of Covid.

The world didn't shut down for the flu. States didn't mandate masks for the flu. States did tell you to stay inside so the spike would go down so kids could go back to school. States/cdc did say that you can go back to normal after the covid vaccine.

What others have said here about the different strains of flu is true and you may have gotten a strain that wasn't "covered" by the vax you got.

Another thing to consider is how long after the shot did you get symptoms? Some get the shot, then 2 days later before it has a chance to work, they get flu and think the shot gave them the flu.

Not possible. The flu shot doesn't have any live virus in it.

One more thing; if you are infected by a flu virus (or COVID) after getting the vax and it has been two weeks, the symptoms will usually be MUCH less severe than if you hadn't been vaccinated.

If you get COVID under whatever circumstances and you have it confirmed with a test and the symptoms are beginning to be severe, ask your doc to prescribe the Monoclonal Antibody infusion. From what I've heard, it really knocks COVID out

Any docs here who have any direct experience or knowledge of this, please confirm.

That is what I'm guessing. However, the 3rd time was only for about a week. The first time put me down for 5 weeks.

America got a double dose of what it means to be sanitary. Wash your hands, don't touch your face, if you're sick don't go outside, or just the fear of not wanting to get tested and contributing to the numbers.

Most flu cases were mis-diagnosed as positive Covid...explains why many folks had mild symptoms, and recovered quickly.

Is that opinion or do you have some research to back that up.
Here in Nova Scotia, the covid numbers are determined by lab tests and the total number of tests and the number of positives are published each day. We have been careful/lucky and have had only 70 some deaths to date out of a population of just under a million.
Our total case numbers were very low until April when some individuals entered the province and attended a wedding without the mandatory 14 day quarantine and infected a bunch of folks who then infected a bunch more and suddenly we are counting 1600 cases instead of thirty province wide.

For the most part we wear masks and hand sanitizing stations are inside the entrance of every store and establishment and the numbers stayed low (as did the seasonal flue and common cold), However one group of clueless f*chups managed to set in motion a train of infection that put 90 people in hospital and maxxed out ICU beds to the point where patients were being transferred to other facilities within the province.

My grand daughter was in school from September to April, but has been remote learning daily with her teacher and half her class since the recent shut down. We didn't shut down for the flue season. This is not the normal flue. Yes some people have little trouble with the virus, others have a lot of trouble and some people die.

No, that’s the result of shutting down the entire country during peak flu season. Sure we lost most of our civil rights, violent crime/alcohol/drug abuse spiked, teen suicides went through the roof, thousands lost their business and millions lost their jobs, but one life lost is too many right?

Also if you’d like to do some research there are multiple scientific studies, many pre-CV, about the effectiveness of cloth and surgical style masks. Best case it’s about 10% assuming proper use, which most people don’t do.

What variant did he get? Sorry, I have to be suspicious. Canada does not typically map the genome, so how is he sure he got a variant? And there are no instances I'm aware of where anyone has clearly proven or even hinted that the vaccinations do not protect against the existing variants, certainly not the known variants in Canada. Just the opposite appears to be true so far.

Did he get sick two weeks or more after his second shot? Up to that point you are not 'fully vaccinated'.

Also, there are 'lots' of instances of 'vaccinated' people testing positive, my son was one of them. There are also false positives, depending on the test type, and the 'cycle' factor. Alberta probably uses 38.

Remember, the vaccination does not stop you from getting COVID. You should not get 'as sick' as you might have without the vaccination, but you can in theory carry COVID.
