Listen To Music At Work?

Who here listens to music at work? What do you listen to? Does it help you concentrate or just distract you? What do you listen to it on? I can’t wear headphones or earbuds all day, can’t understand how some can. Pics if you’ve a system to show.

About the only time I listen to music while I'm working is when I'm in the fields on the tractor or mowing the lawn. I use ear protectors with a radio built in. Tuned to an 'oldies' station.
When I'm using tools in the shop, I do not turn the radio on. I don't need the distraction.

I have a private office that isn’t near other offices or public areas, so I can rock away to my hearts content. I have a small mini system with an iPod attached. I start out the day with it on, but usually have YouTube playing in the background of my computer by mid morning.

Occasionally I do. Depends what I’m working on and time of day.

Open back headphones (HiFiMan 400i) is what I use.

The only time the music stops in the shop is when the power goes out . I mostly just listen to the local radio stations,
If I am in the mood for something specific, I will cue up you tube.

I do on occasion. Either a streaming blues channel (so I'm not singing along and knowing the words, etc and wanting to skip tracks etc) or a 6 hour long mix mp3 of some classical "music for studying"

Amazon prime music on my speakers in my office. I really like Road Trip Radio on XM, I should stream it next week…

pandora streaming music as the mood hits. Noise cancelling over the ear headphones.

I usually listen in the car to the local talk radio/news station in the morning until the national talk shows come on.

The other day I wanted a big day in sales, so I cued up you tube, plugged my phone into the Alpine in the Honda and played Metallic "For Whom The Bell Tolls".

It was good start to a great day. I forgot I could hook up my phone, and now that I remember, I still don't. One time thing I guess. My office is my car.

I won't go into it, but yes. I have an extensive system and constantly update and edit the playlist, which I like to keep at under 22 hrs so that it will rotate songs.

Used to more than now. Just got tired of hearing it. Jazz is a little too intense for me when working but I don't mine classical (old) jazz which is hard to find and I don't have the patience to build a playlist.

The problem I have with playlists is that I get too familiar with them. I need variety. I've tried many of the streaming services and Live 365 was a favorite, but it's just a shell of what it used to be. Apparently a lot of the jocks got out. That's what was nice about it, individual jocks playing their collections.

I never used to listen to music at work, but now that I don’t share an office with anyone, I started with a pair of little powered computer speakers (Audioengines A2), now found room on the desk for some powered mini-monitors (JBL LS305). I may add a subwoofer under the desk to put my feet on. Source is Spotify which has figured out my taste and feeds me an unending supply of classic jazz. Tommy Flanagan, Kenny Dorman, Ron Carter, Dexter Gordon, and so on.

The only problem is that these speakers are pretty bulky for desktop use. I have thought about wall mounting them above the monitors, angled down 45 degrees.

Pic. The Audioengines are just there to raise the JBLs and for Zoom or whatever.

What I like is your classic IBM clicky keyboard.

I only listen to music when I’m doing some mind numbing data entry. It’s typically the Classical For Studying station on Pandora piped through my earbuds.

I have two, after getting one for the laptop. Thinkpads used to have good keyboards; if mine is any guide, that’s no longer true.

They still make Model M keyboards (Unicomp is the company) and the new ones have USB and Windows keys.

Prior to last year I never listened to music while in the office. However, since working remote for reasons we all know, I've grown to enjoy having a classical radio station playing in the background. I think not having music on in the background will be near the top of the list for things I'll miss when I go back to the office.

I know people in the office environment that have headphones on all day but with my role, that isn't really all that feasible or desirable.

I generally listen to music when working from my home office (or garage). I have a small desktop unit that either streams music from my computer or radio. I try to find mostly-instrumental music with some "happy" vibe to it (jazz, blues, big-band, techno-funk, etc). My go-to station is KMHD and when that doesn't match my taste I find a youtube stream or one of my stations on Pandora.
