To me it shows ignorance of the meaning of "arabic numerals"...not necessarily bigotry, just a lack of education.

Kind of like college students lining up to sign a petition to ban hydrogen dioxide.

Lack of education is often a breeding ground for bigotry, IMO.
whoever designed that clock needs more schooltime.

One of the standard cognitive tests given to this old geezer is to hand me a paper & pen, ask me to draw a clock showing the time of eight-twenty.

Wish I was artistic...I'm tempted to draw a casio digital face showing 8:20:00.

Ignorance, yes, but I suspect that at least a portion of the folks that said "no" did it because of the "Arabic" tag without thinking or understanding.

My first thought was no.
But I will never admit it!

One other problem I have with those numerals, is that the thick and thin strokes on the "V" aren't consistent. At first I thought, a-ha! Here's the problem, the printing negatives for the V VI and VII got flopped in prepress. Then I came to my senses and remembered that this is 2021 and no one strips negs for prepress anymore, it's all digital.

Which makes it even more confusing as to how they got this so very very wrong.

Are the Chinese effing with us? Having a laugh at our expense?

Clocks with Roman numerals traditionally have the bases of the numerals towards the center making the 5,6,7 clearly upside down, IIII was used not only to satisfy the confusion, but to balance the opposing numeral VIII which is, of course, III^ to the viewer.
