Battery backup and environmental monitoring
So, we finally have in the budget to add a proper UPS and temp/humidity monitoring in all the IT closets. I know APC has good systems but 2 weeks in I still can't get a quote from them for the software/monitoring side.
I would like to monitor the batteries along with the environment. I don't have to have the sensors tied into the UPS, but it is nice to have it all under one IP address as APC does. The hardware looks like $1800 or so per IDF (we have 15) and the software is still unknown from APC. Who else makes a good system? Eaton? Tripplite?

This is a never ending battle at my workplace. Should I have to monitor the rooms our equipment is in? Shouldn't facilities be monitoring them? I can't do anything except prop a door open and turn on a fan, and I shouldn't ever have to do that, but I do.
We use APC for all our closets, Eaton in the data centers. We monitor everything through Solarwinds, so you can just check with a guy in Russia for our temps. We also have a second set of room monitors, run by SensoScientific. They also monitor our refrigerators. Who do you use for your refrigerators? |

The fridges are all tied in with our SARA system through Status Solutions as well as the fire panels and call light/pendent system.
I hadn't thought of a third party to monitor everything.

You might research and consider these guys. I worked for Liebert a long time and we were bought out by Emerson Electric who sold the power and environmental groups to Vertiv. They seem to at least carried on the key product lines. Liebert was a top notch product line and their field support was truly a model for others to follow.
