Fountain & Raised Planter Bed - My Labor Day Project

I found this fountain on CraigsList a couple of months ago and had installed it in my backyard. However, it just did not look right as it was too big for the space. On my way to work, I passed by a house 1/2 mile away from mine and saw how they did their fountain. The rest is history as I copied their example this weekend. It was exhausting as it took 5 trips to Home Depot as the retaining wall blocks that I used were very heavy and my little truck can only take so much.

Here it is - 95% finished. I still have to complete the electrical and plumbing but all lines have been run and just need to be connected at the house. I was also short 6 boxwoods which I will pick up today.

Finished Project 1 - I removed one level to shorten the fountain a tad.

Finished Project 2

Foundation for Fountain - 6" above ground, 16" below ground

Used a board anchored in the center to create my circle. The used marker paint before digging. Blocks are sitting on a bed of base gravel and cement.

Block Materials = Load 1 of 3

More Materials:

Neighbors Fountain that I copied from - They are 1/2 mile away so as not to compete

My original placement in the backyard

Hey Vern, your fountain already looks 1000 times better then theirs, so there's no comparison.

You sir, are way more ambitious than I.
Fertilize those boxwoods with some Miracle Gro and they'll cover that stone work in no time I bet.
Nice job!

Added yard lights to it last night. I'm going to make some modifications by switching to two dimmer lights but currently just used what I had around. I'm also looking for a stone or concrete bench (something that won't get stolen, since it is out front - this is California these days).

Next time you mow the yard do it in ever widening circles radiating out from the fountain.
Good ripple effect.

Nice job, Vern.

Good to see you took my suggestion to make the concrete base square!
