I used Car Guys Plastic Restorer on the outside trim & the inside on my van several months ago. It's held up well - better than anything I've used so far.

I have used Wipe New (a Rustoleum product) with great success. It seems to be a “wipe or brush” on type clear coating.
**on initial application it looks a little on the glossy side. This will die back to a more natural plastic look. I have done several very tired looking/faded cowl panels on 996 & 997 customer cars as well as rocker panels and trim on other makes. Did the lower bumper covers on a 964 last week. One of the 997’s I did I saw annually for a detail and 3 years in it still looked good. The faded trim needs to be prepped very well to remove all old products/wax residue etc. The one failure I have seen is my Dads Nissan pickup. Even after 2 applications the black bumper caps and bed side tops still looked gray… In that case, either the SEM trim black BobKontak posted or SEM Color Coater for plastic and Vinyl are good choices. Again, prep. is the key. Last edited by Cooper911SC; 09-13-2021 at 09:46 PM.. |

Good luck getting the SEM to stick to anything once you’ve put that silicon-based stuff on a part.

My brother has an older Wrangler with all the plastic trim (wheel lip moldings, etc) faded to a light gray. It doesn't look like there's a long lasting miracle that works like Back to Black and the best way is to remove the trim, properly clean and prep it, and paint it with SEM Bumper Coater. Putting something on there that would fade away within weeks would be a waste of time. Does that about summarize it correctly?

If it survives in marine environments then it will work fine on a car. I use this on my cars. Removed hot linked picture.

That would be perfect, but it doesn't restore faded black color, does it?

"Restores luster on old and worn surfaces"
Exterior - I put it on, wait a few minutes, apply second coat, wait a few more then buff dry. It looks very nice. Granted my trim is not bleached out. On my Toyota where it is bleached out, I use back to black first, then finish with the 3M stuff, it seems to last longer that way.
