Say he didn't quit, how does that help him? More press coverage? I will ask the same question someone above didn't answer. If he should still be in the NFL, and nor 'cancelled', what's appropriate here? Nothing? A fine? A suspension? |

NFL head coach is an apex job that hundreds of others would take in a heartbeat. Have to do everything right in every way to hope to keep it, and even then you might not. In this case, he made himself a huge liability to the team and league, and showed no judgement at all. That sort of conduct, made public, will get anyone fired from any job.
|
10 years ago he displayed bad judgment. Again, if we're using words from the past then the Commissioner better reconsider his choice for the Super Bowl halftime entertainment.

The discussion at hand is not what they did wrong, or still do wrong with players. That's a different topic. Is his argument 'there are worse people in the league'? |
He should have been fined. He should have been suspended. He didn't do anything any worse than some active players have done... in fact, he did FAR LESS than some active players have done.
|
And if we care so much about racial slurs, homophobic language and misogynistic actions or words... again what the hell are Dr Dre, Snoop, and Eminem doing headlining the Super Bowl ? It's bullsh.t to force out Gruden because of homophobic, misogynistic, and racial slurs and have Dre, Snoop and Eminem representing the NFL at the halftime show.

This cancel culture has rushed to judgement far too often without having all the facts, "grab your torch and pitch forks" mentality. I don't have all the answers nor do I claim to have all the answers for any of this and not making any excuses for this guy, actually couldn't give two $hits about him but a quick rush to judgement is not the way to handle things. If he did all of these things that he is being accused of doing then that is just being a bad person. Should he lose everything because of bad behavior, or should he have to take personal management classes and get in touch with his feelings to help him see that his behavior is unacceptable? I will say this though, I wouldn't tolerate kneeling during the National Anthem either and anyone who did so would also be canceled!!! You see, cancel culture can work both ways. the moral is "saying bad things is a worse crime than actually DOING bad things" Antonio Brown's sexual assault caseS (plural) are still pending that guy just won a Super Bowl and is playing every Sunday Not to mention Dre and eminem and snoop --pillars all, never any violent, misogynic, or racist language in their past didn't Chappelle just do a whole routine about how SAYING bad things about certain groups is worse than actually DOING bad things to other groups. |

So then how can these "entertainers" still be on for the half time show?
There was not a single white person in last years halftime show, this one sounds like it is going to be a lot worse. |

It’s worse because there are no white performers? Interesting take. |

here is a sampling of eminem lyrics...lovely Marshall Mathers dropping the word “f----t” and threatening violence against women (“This much of a cs***s ucker to go across the buttocks of Vivica Fox with a box cutter”) and the intersexed (“Got knives to slash and slice hermaphrodites in half”). Met a r***ded kid named Greg, with a wooden leg Snatched it off and beat him over the f****g head with the peg” Went to gym in 8th grade, r**ed the women's swim team Don't take me for a joke, I'm no comedian” |
Worse as in a do as I say, not as I do... The NFL/Public has crucified Gruden, but will allow blatant racist individuals to perform.
Not that I really care because I am not their target audience. |
Rupert will hire him to do sports updates on Tucker's show.

While we acknowledge Jon Gruden's contributions on the field," the team said, "his actions go against our core values as an organization." "Therefore, he will no longer continue to be a member of the Buccaneers Ring of Honor." Gruden coached the Bucs from 2002 to 2008 ... winning one Super Bowl with the team. This is the team which signed AB who is still playing. the lack of consistency regarding their position is baffling. |
There is talk that he was set up by the owners and the NFL. The guy was a trouble maker and they found a way to get rid of him. Could be.....

Anyone operating a level or more above others but yet to figure out that the path is narrow and electronic communications live forever is an excellent candidate for Next. There will be plenty more so the only question is "Who?"
Anyone willing to start a betting line of names? |
No one is going to miss gruden pacing on the side line frowning.
However they will look forward to his replacement. |
