The general is held to higher standards than the grunt.

Seriously, the higher up you are, the brighter the spotlight and the higher the standards you have to live up to. CEOs of Fortune 500 companies are regularly shown the door for in-office relationships; not many are stupid enough to leave an electronic trail like Gruden did, but they'd be out in an instant if they did.

And yet... no General has been removed from command after Afghanistan.. weird huh?

The only thing Gruden is guilty of is being in the NFL during their time of wokeness. I'm not defending the guy but I haven't seen anything that should have cost him his job. I mean seriously, if the guy was some raging racist, wouldn't someone like Warren Sapp have said something? Did Gruden scare that many people? Come on.

The worst thing Keyshawn Johnson could say was that Gruden was a fraud. That's far from being a "racist" though.

Wasn't that email to his own brother 10 years ago? and I may be mistaken but didn't the Raiders hire a female exec, a gay player, and black coaches within the last 10 years? In bad taste yes, but the PC thing seems to be out of hand in this country

cabmandone 10-13-2021 02:34 AM

You'd think with him gone now that you'd see former players piling on. The worst thing I've read so far was from Keyshawn Johnson. But Keyshawn didn't say the guy was a racist. Mike Tomlin didn't address it more that to say it was an all around sad situation.

Gruden out.

Right? What a joke.

Shame on all of us for allowing this cancel bull****. The fraud here is our entire society.

Likely

Bonus they don't have to pay him.

Very amusing how big a deal this is

rfuerst911sc 10-13-2021 05:18 AM

Rapists allowed in the NFL check . Domestic batterers allowed in the NFL check . Drug users allowed in the NFL check . Make disparaging remarks about someone you are outta here ....... got it . 🤬 . But disparaging language set to music is allowed at super bowl halftime shows ...... . got it 😲

This cancel culture has rushed to judgement far too often without having all the facts, "grab your torch and pitch forks" mentality.
I don't have all the answers nor do I claim to have all the answers for any of this and not making any excuses for this guy, actually couldn't give two $hits about him but a quick rush to judgement is not the way to handle things. If he did all of these things that he is being accused of doing then that is just being a bad person. Should he lose everything because of bad behavior, or should he have to take personal management classes and get in touch with his feelings to help him see that his behavior is unacceptable?

I will say this though, I wouldn't tolerate kneeling during the National Anthem either and anyone who did so would also be canceled!!! You see, cancel culture can work both ways.

a) He resigned, he was not fired. In fact the team had a week to fire him and chose not to. Gruden feared the league would remove him so he quit.

b) What facts do you think will come out that might negate the emails? Someone else wrote them? Should we read thousands of emails before we 'judge' him?

c) What mechanism would you use to remove players who kneel?

Are you guys just getting the memo about double standards in this country?

Of course they exist, always have always will...Affirmative Action is a gigantic boil of a double standard for instance.

Gruden resigned for two clear reasons and a whole bunch of ancillary issues, many of which do not pass the sniff test. So what: He was going to be a huge distraction because of the obvious and clear double standard of race reporting in this country and, certainly, he was going to be fired.

That is what private industry does.

Pick you poison.

Stop watching the NFL if this and the other obvious double standards bother you...that is the only way this ends.

But we won't, at least I know I won't.

Comparing an NFL coach to a general makes at least some sense.

Comparing an NFL player to a grunt does not.

I stopped watching a long time ago.
He was right about the head of the NFL too.

Sort of the opposite, coaches are dispensable, players are more valuable. Great players get away with far more.

In the end society sets the rules: Gruden's misogynistic, racist, boorish behavior had the potential to drive away minority and female fans, the one area of growth left for the league.

The half-time show will be whatever is popular and sells tickets, the NFL does not care about content. Only eyes and dollars.

It's an effing business, not a paragon of virtue and fairness. Get on board or stop watching. There is no middle ground.

I thought we were all capitalists here?

It's all just business.

Somewhat unrelated but i think more evil has been perpetrated behind that phrase than 'God told me to...'.

Most everyone understands the business aspect of what happened and why it had to happen. The issue is where players who have done FAR worse than Gruden are still playing. Or where the NFL turns a blind eye to homophobic, misogynistic, and racist lyrics of the people they're hiring to perform at a halftime show.
There's always middle ground and it is typically found where double standards don't exist and there's consistency in what is done. The NFL is blowing in the political winds in hopes of expanding their market. They made an example of Gruden but don't hold the players, people you say are more valuable than a quality head coach, to the same standards.

Not disputing that.
