The local mall mandates they are a "gun free zone"

and then this happens
https://www.foxnews.com/us/boise-police-shots-fired-mall-multiple-are-injured
Quote:
One suspect is in custody and officers are working their way through the mall to clear each business, Boise police said, adding later that some shoppers were still trapped inside the mall.
Maybe I need to shop elsewhere if I can't defend myself from an active shooter?

Every bit as stupid and useless as "drug free zones". Some nitwit, hand wringing ninny Karen thinks posting signs deters shooters and drug dealers. Jeezus H. Christ...

Plenty of places around here have "gun free zone" signs. They mean nothing, don't have force of law behind them and are invisible to me.

My whole state is a "gun free zone" yet crimes involving firearms happen. Hmm - I guess the criminals didn't get the memo...

I didn't mind not carrying a gun...but always carried a knife (since I was about 9 or 10) and am pretty handy with one. Now they have started putting metal detectors in so many buildings, that you really cannot do that any more. So, can't carry a knife to work now either.

I always carried a large folding knife when I flew on business before 911...and no one seemed to care. Now, I often end up in the bad part of some big city (near the airport) on foot without even that. It seems the laws are more intended to make honest people defenseless than to protect them.

Fintstone, as an aside to your post, researchers working with wood have found that by chemically removing much of the lignin and subjecting the material to heat and pressure, they are left with something that holds an edge and is almost as strong as steel by weight.

I've never been in that mall, but it is right next to one of the hotels I frequently use in Boise.

Idaho is a very conservative state. But Boise is very very liberal, with the California transplants. Gun free zones are STUPID!

Barred from entering a courthouse because you had a can opener with a "point" (that's only pointy, but not blade-sharp) that's max 1/4". Seems you had someone either not terribly bright or on a power trip. That's insane!

Bah! John Wick kills men with a flippin pencil!

If the mall has a sign that does have the force of law then I just translate that to mean "please take your money and buy stuff somewhere else". I feel the same way about "Starchucks" Coffee. If you don't respect my 2A rights, I refuse to support your business and provide you profits that you can use to destroy the Constitution.

i'm okay if i dont have a gun with me if i am picking stuff up at the food court. my overstuff calzone and $25 food voucher at Cinnebon doenst warrant me carrying.

bad guys shooting, good guys shooting back..yea. i'll duck behind the vat of lemonade.. its a safe bet, most of them wont be good shots.

that Politician Gifford and 18 people were shot in the middle of a parking lot found in arguably the most prolific conceal and open carry state. AZ. not sure why one of the many many self trained John Wick hopefuls didnt just whip out their Sig this, or Glock that..and end the flurry of violence with a quick double tap center-mass.

Tucson is not a gun-friendly area, but there was a CCW'er who ran out of the store when the shooting started. It was all over by the time he got there and he helped restrain Loughner until the police arrived. That stuff happens in the blink of an eye and you know most people are not paying attention to anything around them unless there's a loud noise. And they have to look around to see where it's happening. So, unless you saw Loughner approaching with an unholstered gun in his hand, you probably would have had no idea what was going on until it was all over.

You mean, what like just happened last week in a small town close to where I live. Good guy, fast thinker, saved lives.

“Oct. 22, 2021, 6:44 AM CDT / Source: Associated Press
By The Associated Press
SUPERIOR, Neb. — A man who had been fired from a grain elevator in Nebraska on Thursday returned with a gun and shot three people, killing two, before he was shot and killed by another employee, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

The patrol said the shooting occurred at the Agrex Elevator in Superior, a town in southeast Nebraska near the Kansas border.

A preliminary investigation showed that Max Hoskinson, 61, of Superior, was fired from the grain elevator on Thursday. He returned around 2 p.m. with a handgun and shot three people, the patrol said.

Another employee retrieved a shotgun from an office and shot Hoskinson, who was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to the patrol.”
