I've got the Electrolux as well....about 30 years old. It is still working fine but for convenience and smaller jobs the Shark cordless is hard to beat.

The same thing happened to us with our Dyson purchase!

But here is the kicker. I called them up and went through what you did and they say we will send you a new battery in a couple of days. A week goes by and nothing. I reply back to their confirmation email and they are apologetic. A couple of days later and I email them again.
They apologize and say they will take care of it and send it rush overnight.
The next day a whole new vacuum shows up!
Great. Now I have a Dyson for the garage!
2 weeks later the battery shows up!
Ya. We won this one.

Vacuum

We have a whole house vacuum, with electric beater bar attachment. Best investment ever. Vents outside, no dust blowback like conventional vacs. Even Dyson will blowback on occasion. Has a 40 foot hose that does all the downstairs. Three hose connections, one upstairs two down. We vacuum 2-3 times a week with two dogs in the house and I empty the collection can in the basement about every other week. Lots of dog hair! Nice you got your wife an appliance for her b’day. Wine and dinner as well I hope. My Dad got my Mom 3-4 appliances for Christmas one year and she went off like a rocket! “What am I your maid, just here to cook and clean for you?” She said. Wow, he never did that again, expensive jewelry every year after that fiasco….

This is all very interesting.

I might have to try using a vacuum. They certainly look easy enough to use.

Normally, I just have to lift my feet when there’s vacuuming going on.

My V10 kicks azz. Got rid of the upright Dyson for the V!). The battery lasts like an hour on the low setting. I use the medium setting and it pulls up powdery dirt that I can't believe was in the carpet.

Love it

I have a 5-year-old Bissell CleanView for the shop which means it vacuums up tumbler media (little ceramic rocks), aluminum and steel saw cut shavings, stripped paint and powder coating flakes and general detritus and does this better than any $50 vacuum cleaner ever should. It's essentially an upright shop vac that takes mountains of abuse and keeps working great. For $50.

NLA but newer models are. No idea on what it would do for dog hair.

Bissell CleanView Bagless Upright Vacuum with OnePass Technology, 1330 - Corded

With our dogs, the vacuums get used daily.

Have a Dyson Animal. Really cant complain about it. Thing works great. Only issue I have with it is, the exhaust blows towards the front and downward. But then again our Hoover Paws does the same thing.. Why would you blow away the stuff you are trying to pick up?? Guess the engineers didnt think that one out..

Costco has a great return policy. Why would you not just get another one?

That was option one. I chose option 2 because I wanted it to be a surprise. Namely they send me a new battery(2-7 day delivery). As in honey I got your birthday present but it is not working. If the battery is not here in 7 days then I will take the vacuum back to Costco and get another.

I bought a Shark for the work apartment, about four or five months ago. So far so good.

It’s still in the box!😂

Just take it back right now and exchange it. Come back with a new one and say, "Honey, I listened to you and got you what you wanted." Win win.

I put in the extra effort. I lift my beer and take the remote off of the coffee table as she’s dusting.

I bought a Dyson for our home and it is good for really light jobs.
Great for doing the car.
We have a second one in our cabin that was left there by the previous owner.
The price was right but I did have to replace the battery.

Very weird, these folks having bad luck with Dysons, especially if they were corded. Ours was awesome.
