Quickjack seems... not right.

I picked up a Quickjack 5000SLX from Costco not too long ago. Finally had a chance to use it today, now that the 911 is out of the garage. I can't seem to find a good lift points with the 911 (85), so I tried with the 968, since there are dedicated lift points.

One one frame, my lock cam is gouged and binds up on the lock when lowering. On each gouged spot. (Tried filing it smooth...)

On the other frame, the locking arm rises out of the channel and skips over the frame if the car's weight is on it. That frame also wants to sink under the weight of the car.
Add those two together, and you have a problem like I did, with the car sitting at a severe angle and one side sunk and the other side bound up.

Everything is bled.

Take it back to Costco and get another one.

Tempting. It took about three weeks to get, since they don't carry them in store around here. Before I do that, I'll contact Quickjack, since I'd be losing out on the lowered price that Costco had at the time if I re-order.

Cant see what's causing the arm to not ride in the channel. But it looks to be not set up right.

Take it back to Costco. Our host sells these.

Not sure how the lift works, but it look like a hollow steel rivet acts as the pivot point for that piece. Yikes.
Nothing at all looks factory lubricated.

Check for all smooth operation when not under load, first, before any weight is lifted.
(i.e. no expensive car frame is above it)

Yep. Obviously binding up higher, at or near the link pivot.

Yeah, even with no load, the locking cam binds up. And you're right, the pivot on the cam is a hollow rivet.

As much as I love our host, their price wasn't remotely competitive with Costco. And the Costco return policy makes in a no-brainer.

I purchased a 5000SLX from Costco last year and it's working great. I would take yours back based on the look of the cam alone.

Update:

Quickjack support has had me remove, clean, and blow out three different valves, swap the hose fitting on the power unit, try each hose on each fitting, and flush the unit by holding both up and down buttons for 10 seconds.

Problem still persists. Won't even hold my own weight without sinking. And as one side sinks, the other side rises. Hadn't notices that before, but that doesn't seem right unless a control unit valve is borked.

They're sending me the following:

1 safety arm assembly
1 double threaded rod
2 nuts
1 cam
1 spring pin
1 male power unit fitting (one of those fitting had a center "plunger" that seems...sticky.)

Now that I have finally had time to test this stupid thing again, I'm convinced that one of these frames is tweaked.
A few things have happened since my last post.

Quickjack sent me new hydraulic fittings made by a company called SABE manufacturing. They don't work with the fitting that came with the unit - they will NOT snap together, no matter what. Now I have a mish-mash of hydraulic fitting that don't want to cooperate, some that work, and some whose center "plungers" stick open, which Quickjack says isn't right. In order to test it today, I replaced a power unit fitting with the original that was sticking open.

They sent the new cam to replace the gouged cam. That worked, and that frame no longer binds while lowering.

They sent a new locking arm to replace the locking arm that skipped out of the channel, on the other frame. Along with the long bolt to mount it. The bolt they sent? It was visibly bent... and much different from the original bolt.

They advised using the original bolt with the new arm. Ok, cool.
They sent a new hose with two fittings... that don't fit the fittings they're supposed to snap into. Because they're SABE.

The new arm has the same problem. It skips out of the channel and want to ride of the frame itself, the cam drops, and won't lock. Even manually lifting the cam, the arm doesn't want to drop into place unless it's forced. This frame is tweaked somehow. It has to be.

Due to my frustration and the issues I've had, they also sent a "gift" -- a complimentary cross-beam adapter. Upon delivery, the box was split open on both ends. And parts were missing...

I'm about done with this thing.

To my surprise, they also sent a JackPack lithium jumper pack/air compressor unit. Wasn't expecting that, but I'm expecting it to blow up the first time it's used.

Pack it up and take it back to Costco tonight. Seems like this one just isn't worth the hassle.

I was shorted two couplers so QuickJack is sending them to me. Will test it once I get the missing parts.

Certainly a valuable heads up here. Costco is good about taking things back even if the item declares, "Do no return to retail store, contact us directly for warrantee assistance, etc."

(my words to the best of my recollection.)

Once something is cobbled up, it's just no good. Like a floor jack that tipped over. After that they have an affinity to tip.

Yeah, I agree with this. I imagine someone with the manufacturer who is very liable for their product has no idea what their subordinates are doing by sending you replacement parts for a product that was obviously defective right out of the box. I would have washed my hands of that particular device long ago.
