The cruise movies were good movies, just not Reacher movies. Lots of stuff out there likes to use a name but never gets there like the Jack Ryan series, any Star Wars movies after the first three and so on.
The books have the whole "and Reacher says nothing" that is hard to convey in the movies/series.

I think that when you make a movie, the script defines the character and has no responsibility to make it match a book. The Reacher movies did just that. They had no real need or obligation to match the books. They were much wiser to use an action star that would fill seats and make the script suit his stature. He also seemed to pull off the intellectual part of the character better than the Ritchson who comes across as a dullard acting under a steroid rage. He played a similar character in a 2019 movie I watched last nights (MMA fighter). As noted earlier, it is hard to root for the very dark Reacher in this year's episodes. He is also the bad guy.
While the TV series may make those that loved the books happy, I suspect most of the audience did not read the books. Probably far fewer than watched the movies. Once the movies were made, Cruise was Reacher to most. At least to me

Not at all, that midget isn’t Reacher by any means.
I’ve read a ton of the books and the tv Reacher is believable going 1 vs 5 in a fight. The little Scientologist nope. |

Ritchson is a far more entertaining Reacher than Cruise but Cruise is a much better actor than Ritchson

Finally got around to binge watching Season 3 through Episode 5 yesterday. Anthony Michael Hall sure has come a ways since 40 years ago in Weird Science!

Then I realized it was AMH! He was hilarious in his first couple of movies 16 Candles and Breakfast Club. |

Just watched episode 6 of season 3. I thought the show was weak, but it just became a comic book series.

I am liking the new series.
I am not ranking them in any favorites list, tho. they all seem entertaining... one thing for sure, I dont watch it to see who Reacher bones...that would make it weird.

Yep, her hard-azz persona doesn't come off as believable. I've seen some actresses pull that "character" off before. This one is just "Ok" at it.

Re-watching Season 1 while waiting for the last episode to drop. Anyone else interested in maybe one or two episodes focusing on Neagley? Maybe a few cases where she asks Reacher for help might be good.

There will be a spinoff series for Neagley.

I'd be up for a spinoff on Neagley. Season 3 finale this Thursday.
