So how many lawsuits about driver poaching against MacLaren this month ? Indy and F1 ?

I'm torn about this Piastri/Alpine silly season special. I confess to like Alpine as a brand (love their old A110 car, their new one, and their underdog team status). I do think they stupidly favored an uneven but luckier Ocon over Alonso too much and got burned. So OK for Fernando, his mistake, he's famous for making poor transfer decisions...

But Piastri ? Not exactly Ayrton Senna yet, they invested so much $$$ in running the kid a lot on track and in the sim, they do have a valid contract and so does MacLaren per the recognition board, so this could get stupid ugly. I may be old fashioned but I believe in Karma... I think it was a bad move for a young unproven driver to snub the team that helped him like that, I think they will not forget and the kid will regret it. The lawsuits can last a bit, and all this... not to drive for Redbull, no, to drive for a team who has not proven to be any better than Alpine for a few years now... Trading a C+ car for a C- one. There's no telling they'll be better next year. If i were him I'd have stayed put, beaten Ocon, and looked mighty good for the future. I think Mark Weber screwed the pooch on this transaction.. Alonso too - probably, but that's par for the course with him.

No kidding. Are McLaren going to have to pay off Riccardo and pay Alpine for Piastri - (not to mention the Ganassi thing)?

When did Mc come into all this money? Wasn't that long ago they were on the brink and considering selling assets to make ends meet....

Piastri had BETTER be the second coming of Senna for anyone to be going to this much trouble to get him in the car....

It's being reported that it is going to cost McLaren 20-25 million to buy out Riccardo's contract . Then roll in legal costs on both sides of the pond and the salary for whoever is the new driver this will have been one costly rodeo .

When daddy Stroll bought McLaren so his son could be an F1 driver.

Stroll bought Racing Point, as I'm sure it will be pointed out.

I can't understand what's going on at McLaren. I would have thought Seidl would have put his foot down and calmed things down, but Webber and Seidl have a close friendship from the Porsche LM prototype days.

Getting paid 20-25 million NOT to drive. Not a bad deal.

And I’ve been doing it for free all these years!

I know! Such a missed opportunity. I looked on indeed.com didn't find any non-driving F1 positions listed. ;)

I used to work in the periphery of an industry where people were frequently poached. It was SOP for the poach-ee to be paid for not working for x amount of months or years while an old noncompete contract ran out.

I was never poached, never had my head hunted. Would have loved to have that happen just once!

Deschodt 08-11-2022 09:06 AM

Made me chuckle... because it's true.

F1 poaching/head hunting is part of the game as there has never been enough good, experienced people to go around (long may it continue) ;)

Most recently Redbull Powertrains have enticed many Mercedes HPP (Mercedes F1 engines) staff away

Also Aston Martin are poaching aggressively from top teams as they build up their team, even offering a signing on bonus for more senior positions

Ferrari have a UK based head hunter, he knows the technical management structures of all the teams on the grid, who is who, who is good, who is not, who to avoid etc

In F1 being paid not to work and staying at home is referred to as 'Gardening Leave' :D

New power unit rules have been approved

Now lets see who will join in the fun in 2026,

Porsche a definite with Redbull
Audi a possible if they buy out Sauber
Andretti, hope so, just lots of big talk but little action so far
Russian backed team, heavily recruiting in the UK so could be an outside bet
Far Eastern consortium team, just murmurs in the press so far

Kimi did a very respectable job in qualifying.

I hope he survives the start and the race.

red 928 08-20-2022 11:51 PM

F1 is implementing bans of "disruptive" behavior by fans.
Basically, saying anything that could be offensive to drivers,
teams, or other fans is now banned.

But it's still OK to fire off hundreds of orange flares
in the stands and expose others who just wanted
to watch a race to toxic smoke.
As long as they don't complain or say something offensive
to the ones trying to poison their lungs. That would be wrong.

astrochex 08-21-2022 03:53 AM

^Thoroughly absurd. Talk about a bubble.

How do these people survive real life?

nota 08-21-2022 10:43 AM

glenn starts a 3 pm eastern on USA HD
