I’ve been here long enough to know not to post if I’m too sensitive for ridicule

Nothing to do with you at all...I thought it was a very interesting question, one I really hadn't noodled on because my children are grown.

They both got blood work done, btw.

My daughter 13, not vax'd just tested positive, had a headache 1 day and is now fine, the up side she is now better protected than my wife and I who are both vax'd. I hope the whole family gets it so we are better protected.

Omicron is the best thing to happen to covid, it's the vax mandate we are ALL going to get. If you are remotely healthy breath deep and enjoy your antibodies.

He asked a serious question, so he should get a serious answer, not just the usual noise. I guess some people didn’t read everything he had to say.

Here’s my take on it. I think the number one factor for most people is the health of their immune system. There are many facets to that, one marker that I am most concerned about is my vitamin D level. I think of you have a vitamin D level above 50 ng/mL, you’re likely going to do just fine. You’re going to have to supplement your diet to a greater extent that is normally recommended to get to that level but vitamin D is not very toxic. There are vitamins that are helpful with vitamin D absorption and creation, namely vitamin K. There are many steps to creating the vitamin D that we use, in the liver and in the kidneys. So, it’s not something that changes quickly, unfortunately.

Another nutrient that I make a point of getting plenty of is zinc. For it to do any good, you have to pair it with an ionophore, such as quercetin, ivermectin, HCQ etc. Zinc has trouble crossing the cell walls into the cells, where the virus replicates, the ionophores help that. I think that if you have a good immune system, you won’t really have any problems. So the first step I would take is to get a blood test done. Keep in mind some of the levels that are considered normal need to be higher for dealing with Covid.

I think there is also a genetic component. I think there are certain genes that tend to make a Covid prognosis worse for an individual. Nothing you can do about that. I think they are beginning to identify these genes, so perhaps a person could get tested to see if they have them, to at least know where they stand. I don’t know how far along that path we are, I haven’t looked into it at all.

I don’t know enough about down syndrome to know if kids have the same problems as adults, and if those are genetic or lifestyle/diet-based.

Kids in that age range typically don’t have much trouble with Covid. The statistical numbers for a 14 year old are incredibly good, although I don’t know if a kid with down syndrome it is different in that regard.

Delta and Omicron are the two variants that I think are out there right now in any sizable numbers and I think most of the cases are Omicron. Both are less problematic than the original, especially Omicron. Omicron has much less ability (by a factor of 10) to get down into the lungs where the real problems are caused. So that’s a positive factor.

As for the vaccines, I think that the complications are far greater than people realize, for two reasons. One, few get reported. One in 10, one in 100? Who knows? The other thing is that one of the complications that I think will be very common is going to go largely undiagnosed in most people. It’s the clotting problem, but not the one that is significant enough to show up in a radiograph, or cause a stroke. I’m talking about clotting in the very small capillaries, those that are too small to see on imaging. That’s at the root of some of these other problems that you hear about, like myocarditis. You can test for it with a D-dimer test. If I were vaccinated, I would be getting one of those tests as a baseline to understand where I was. I think the negative affects from the vaccine are cumulative, so the more doses, the worse things may get.

Bottom line, before I would suggest a booster shot, I would have some testing done to see where you are right now with his health and then I would ask if there was anything related to down syndrome that might be a factor, apart from the immune system health, which is largely a function of diet.

My personal strategy has been to focus on my immune system health, and limit my exposure. I have not been vaccinated. So far, so good.
