Interestingly, apparently, NA beers are not uncommon in Germany. Seems weird, but I heard it from a German. I wonder if German NA beer is better/different than in the US.

I gave it up 36 years ago when I met Mrs. Rocket. I got into the mountain biking, hiking, camping, etc. and was tired of weekend splurges with my buds.

I think you've got that backwards. Men usually double the number (they want to seem more studly) and women usually halve the number (they don't want to be thought of as easy/slutty).

Sorry, should have said " Men, halve the number. Women, double the number - for the truth."

A female friend was introducing a bunch of us to her new fiancé.

Her to me "Don't mention us."

Me "Huh."

Her "I didn't include you."

I agree with Jim, IMO you were not a drinker. But for F sake if you feel better with your changes then 1000% support you all the way man! I drink wine with my wife every night with dinner. Since CV and home based working I do indulge in a pre game cocktail as well. I can drink a pint of booze and come off sober to others. So that is my warning to pull back, and I am trying. I never drink to drunk, just a buzz and I pull the plug. Don’t drink and drive/ride ever. I could stand to drop 20 pounds of gut and if I cut out 1/2 of my alcohol intake could likely make that in short order

Vash, as I recall your ethnicity is Asian. Are you sure you’re just not a victim of “Asian flush?” That would account for your unpleasant biological reactions to small amounts of alcohol.

About 25 years ago, I had to stop drinking during the week. The ex-Mrs. Beard is an alcoholic. We were drinking 1-2 bottles of wine a night. She would regularly drink 6-12 oz of "frozen" vodka a night. She was 5 foot even and about 105 lbs. I had to remove myself from that. It was affecting my work.

I drink socially. Friends over, maybe a couple of beers. Friday with Mrs. Beard. And this all adds up to about 10 drinks a month. Might go a month without drinking anything.

On the low alcohol stuff, I cannot imagine how bad this stuff might be

Good on you. I'm 2 weeks into a dry January. Would love to lose a little weight and I tend to eat more if I have a drink. Plus, as the daughter of 2 alcoholics, it's nice to know I can stop. Not planning on going completely dry after Jan. but definitely reducing.

Oh and I can not imagine how terrible that zero alcohol whiskey would be

I'll bet that Listerine would taste better.

My liver was sending out an S.O.S.

I agree, by most standards I’m a rookie drinker. Maybe my liver is ultra sensitive. We are trying to figure it out. Next is a scan.

If the zero wiskey is even remotely close, it would be fun to serve it in mixed drinks at a party and see how many people start acting 'drunk' from it.

When I was a teen, I used to pretend I was high (marijuana) to fit in (as all the cool kids purported to "get high") and there were a couple girls I was interested in and was told by friends they were not interested because I did not. I had even adorned my book covers in names of heavy metal bands and drawings of marijuana leaves. Someone finally had enough of my silliness and stopped me and told me "You are confused. You are acting drunk." My "act" was based on Otis Campbell, the Mayberry "town drunk" on the Andy Griffith Show...my only exposure to an intoxicated person.

I've had some issues with the EtOH and now when I engage with coworkers - I emphasize that it wasn't a "drinking problem", it was a "drinking temple-of-excellence". Seriously, I was good at that stuff...

Cut way way back and it's amazing how much better I feel. I was self-medicating anxiety and the sauce only adds to the trouble. So much calmer now - even if there's a glass of wine on the desk in front of me.

Moderation...

I wonder how much of alcoholism is that, self medication of an untreated mental health issue. I know the ex-Mrs. Beard has self esteem issues that fed her alcoholism.

A lot of alcoholism can be traced to heredity.

Yep.

I'm the first Douglas in six generations NOT to be an alcoholic. My father was a ferkin monster.

I'm far to smart to become an alkie.
