Yup, and both are recognized as different standards of the breed. The darker, more red-ish ones are the American standard, bred mainly as hunting dogs. Ed comes from a long line of field trial dogs, some champions, and is an amazing hunter. Two dogs ago, his predecessor "Scout", worked his way all the way up to AKC "Master Hunter" qualification. It's not a competitive thing, just a qualification.

The English Cream is the better service animal, companion dog, and does better in the show ring. Probably better as a pet, not as high strung as the dogs bred specifically for field use. Ed tends to get bored pretty easily if I don't keep him very active. He hasn't started hitting the bottle yet, but like all of my hunting partners, he does enjoy a cold beer once we are back in from the field.

OK, Sullivan is my daughters dog and I didn’t take him to work, but here’s a picture because he’s such a good doggy.

Taking your dog to work can be a good idea.

I took this one to work with me for couple years. Would greet people and follow them in to the treatment room. She took a year or two before she was gentle enough. Pretty vicious toward other dogs for a solid two years, got to be more chill, eventually. Was always good around people. Except for one guy. Right after her knee surgery. I can't recall why, but my office manager had her at the office after the dog had surgery. Dog was sleeping, guy comes in and says something about the scraggly looking mutt. She woke up and barked at him. He says, not very friendly either. Office manager says, first time I have ever seen her bark at anyone. Now I know a dog does not understand what you are saying, but they pick right up on your demeanor.

Had a pretty rough time before she jumped into Mom's Caddy one rainy day. Dad held that against the dog for years, wet dog smell. It was not that bad. Friend of my brother recognized her from when she was running around loose. Said the dog ran out, attacked his dog, and ran away. My brother had trouble finding someone to take her, and did not want to take her to the shelter, so brought her over to my house. She hit it off fine with our other dog, my brother said it was the first time he saw her play.


Her first owner was a drunken, abusive POS who has no doubt drunk herself to death by now. My brother spoke to her, dog was chipped, so you can get a phone number. He called when she was drunk, 0900 on a Saturday, she tells him she does not care what he does with the dog. She sobers up a couple days later and calls, legal owner of the dog and all. He told her he gave the dog to some people that moved out of state.

Bailey was a Wheaton Terrier mix. My vet wanted to buy her from me, as if that would happen. I thought my wife was kidding, but I asked the vet tech and she said it was true. Had the prettiest eyes, little flecks of gold in them, don't have a picture that does them justice. I have been pretty lucky with all my stray dogs.

She definitely has a curly kind of coat. Her brother is still a little curly but not as much.

My dogs act more like little people than like dogs because they follow me everywhere, including work. You can't have a bad day at work if your dog is with you.

3 dogs over 30 years........... I can't imagine work without one.........

Ollie comes to the office with me 2-3 days a week. He's gotten really good about not jumping up on people and has only peed on one client so far.

Go Ollie! You can tell that Ollie is a gentleman and a great judge of character. Clearly there was a reason that they needed to be peed on.

He's a hoot alright. Gooses everyone too. Good news is 99% of our clients are dog people.

At my previous company, dogs were allowed at all of our offices. I can’t recall a day when someone didn’t have their dog at the office. Most people had baby gates to keep their dogs in their offices but not everyone.

Where I work now, it would be frowned on… because ‘optics’.

When I was at Trican, I brought my dog to work probably a dozen times. She was a great dog and everyone there loved her. One of the other managers suggested I stop bringing my dog because we had someone else in the office whose dog destroyed most of their furniture at home. He was worried she would start bringing her mutt to work… never happened.
