El Nino - Grrrrr
Apparently a strong El Nino is coming this winter. The Pac NW will be both warmer and drier than normal. MAD. I bought my season ski pass! We’re in a drought! Winter always sucks here, doesn’t suck any less for being a little warmer or dryer. I want a heavy duty winter.

Careful what you wish for. I’m in the Sierra foothills and last winter we got dumped on with snow. Trees and rain gutters destroyed. As much as I like and need a good winter I’m getting too old for all the clean up and repairs that come with it.

I wouldn't fret too much. Kevin Martin at SoCal Weather Force is my go to for weather prediction. He always hits it right on the money with many of the big names (National Weather Service, Weather Channel, etc) copying his predictions . Here's his for this winter....

Yup, I'll trade a few days w/ no power after a hurricane every few years for dealing with cold and snow anytime...

Hey JYL,
I looked at prior El Nino winters and how they impacted the ski season just last week. It seems that there is an increase in precipitation early (Nov / Dec) and only a SLIGHT decline into Spring. The net effect is close to minimal under average. I may grab a pass this year. I am not particularly concerned after looking at prior EN years. |

JYL - come ski with us. I’m at Castle Mountain Resort nearly every weekend…
I hope you like steep and deep!

That’s good to hear, thanks for talking me down. My new skis are in, bringing my boots to the shop this weekend to get buildings and mounting. Stockli Montero AR - it’s a frontside ski, maybe I’ll get something wider later this year. Thinking Look Pivot 14. Got the season pass at Meadows, picked up helmet and jacket on sale this summer. Looking forward to snow!

I just hope the jet-stream returns to semi-normal next year. It was a super-hot dry summer here.
