The vaccine
So, by telling me that I must wear a mask again indoors is the same thing as telling me the vaccine does not work. I was told that my vaccine is 94% effective. Then the government says that I must wear a mask to protect the people that do not want to get vaccinated!!!and many will never get vaccinated!!! Now I understand why so many young people don’t want to get the shot, because if they do get the shot they will still have to wear a mask! K

Pretty simple.
The Delta variant is about 2X more infectious than the original Wuhan strain. Persons who are in the early stages of infection have far more virus in their nasal structure than with the original strain, this emit far more viral particles, thus are much more likely to infect others. Even with this variant, persons who are vaccinated are roughly 70-80% less likely to become noticeably ill (symptomatic) and roughly 90% less likely to become severely ill (hospitalized, ventilated, death) than those who are not vaccinated. I.e. getting vaccinated is very protective, for the person vaccinated. However, about 1/3 of Americans are not vaccinated. God knows why. They remain entirely unprotected, and when infected will be infectious. And a small number of Americans are so immunocompromised that they are not well protected even if vaccinated. And a small number of vaccinated persons will still get infected. They may feel no ill effects themselves, but will still be emitting virus particles. So, with this variant, and with the current vaccines, if we want to do our best to protect everyone, the best thing to do is to wear masks when indoors close to other people. Even if vaccinated. Sounds like you’re not happy about it. Neither am I. Tough *****. The virus isn’t about making us happy.

That can be misleading. Let's call it a R2 and R4. 1 infects 2, 2 infect 4, then those 4 infect 8, then 16, Up to... 1 infects 4, 16, 64, 256, 16 vs 256. |

If they get the shot they won’t die. They will also avoid serious illness most likely. The idiots who stay unvaccinated will end up in the hospital in much higher numbers thus stressing our healthcare infrastructure to the brink. Wearing a mask indoors is not that big of a deal. |

Dude! My point is that no matter what, stupid people and young people will not get the vaccine no matter what. So because of that we vaccinated people must protect them? Do you see how crazy this is? Because if this , we all could be wearing a mask for years indoors. After over a year people are sick of wearing a mask so they just will not. In LA county, the sheriff said he will not put any of his officers on a mask wearing or not mask wearing detail. Just does not have the manpower. Many bars and restaurants are just not requiring it.

Trouble is, they won’t get the shot. I know many people in San Diego area that say they will never get the shot . They and getting $100. Heck, the government gives them $300 on top of unemployment

Even if this variant hadn't come along, the vaccines never claimed to be perfect. If wearing a mask is the most onerous thing anyone ever has to do to remain healthy they are very lucky indeed. Try a prostate biopsy. MrsWD said she'd wear a mask every day for 10 years if she never had to get another mammogram.

No, this won't last very long.
The new case and hospitalization rates are rising very fast, and when you look at the charts, consider that the bulk of those new cases and especially new hospitalizations are in the roughly 1/3 (nationwide) of Americans who are unvaccinated, meaning that if we had charts of new cases/hospitalizations among the unvaxed, they would be rising even faster. I think the Delta variant will move through the unvaccinated rather quickly - not in a few weeks, but in a couple-few months. And then this surge will fade, leaving a substantial number of unvaxed among the deceased, a larger number with serious long-term health issues, many more with a certain level of acquired immune protection, and hopefully many with the vaccinations that they didn't get before. Then we'll have to see what new variants bring, and to what extent a future variant may evade the acquired immunity that one gets from having had the current variant. Ultimately, the biopharma companies can modify their vaccines to address new variants, but if enough Americans keep refusing to be vaccinated, then we will keep going through this. If that happens, there are some solutions, but they won't be easy ones.

Looks like the majority of covid cases in cape cod were vaccinated. What's the spin on this? Mike |

I still chuckle at the people who think that wearing a POS cloth mask stops any of this.
Well you see the Gama Variant is now identifying as LGBTQ prompting the CDC to recommend rainbow masks. We have the CDC wagging this America dog. It's ridiculous.

Living must be halted until the dying ceases. Seriously, are you going to let your fear of this virus ruin your life? Or do you want to use it to stifle other's lives?

I think after over a year of wearing masks you will see that people have had enough. Like I said, millions will just not get the vaccine. Even my cat can see this is political . And she is a stupid cat.

It sure seems like it. Something is going on.
It’s very hard to trust the government and the media on anything Covid related anymore. Because if that NY Post cover is true, what we are doing and the way this is being very selectively reported is insanity. |

I wore a mask here when it was required (and for some time after it no longer was) because I didn't want to upset others (not sure I think they do all that much, certainly not the ones that are less than N95 rated and fit poorly as well), but since getting poked with J&J I have not, and holy shiit, that last thing I want to do is go back to doing that. Who knows, maybe I'll just have to return to ordering every damn thing online (including food and other BS stuff I would normally shop in a store for) if mandates come down.

It’s great to have even more internet “experts” on board though. I had JYL pegged as a pretty sharp financial guy. Now virology. Who knew? Awesome!
