RIP Taylor Hawkins

Seeing it reported by several reputable sources.

50 years old, damn.

Foo Fighters are on tour in S America and apparently he passed right before they were going to take the stage.

No cause of death given as of yet.

Great drummer. I saw them at Neil Young's Bridge School concert back in the day. They have the kids (Cerebral Palsy) lining the back of the stage and when FF came out Taylor gave each of them a drumstick. As they played you never saw a more excited bunch of head bangers simulating Taylor's playing. It was really something!

I know he had drug problems in the past, and there's talk of a possible overdose. I'm wondering if it was Fentanyl in something he scored in Colombia.

RIP Taylor.

That's some really terrible news. The list of things that suddenly kills someone thin, 50 yo, alone in their hotel room is small.

Not really...Conway Twitty died of an abdominal aneurism at age 58. One of those pops, and you can bleed out in minutes.

So, there are many causes. It's just that when it happens to a rock musician, an overdose is assumed. Probably because it is often the cause...that's sad.

You mention one thing and now it’s no longer a small list…🧐

Okay, more...Bobby Darin, Momma Cass, I'm sure there's gotta be other non drug related deaths...just that those came to mind. Maybe we need a thread on rockers who died young but not of overdose?

First time I saw Taylor play was the early days of the initial Alanis tour. They were all still kids in a van with a U-haul type trailer, playing very small venues (The old Excelsior Mill Bar in Atlanta). Carried his own gear in and set up the stage while we drank at the bar.

When they were ready to play, we walked over to the stage and literally set our drinks on the stage, and leaned against the platform. Alanis stood three feet from me, but as things got started, she worked every inch of that platform. It was immediately clear that Taylor was a unique talent, and surely one of the top ten drummers I've seem live.

After half an hour had a total of maybe 400-500 people jammed in that little room. The whole band seemed to be having the time of their lives. What a show. Nine months later they were selling out stadiums!

A shame he passed at 50, but he definitely got the most out of the time he had. RIP.

I did read an early report that he had been complaining all day of not feeling well, and that there was some suspicion of altitude sickness. They were set to play in Bogata, Colunbia....el. 8,700 feet. Could be a contributing factor.

the old heroin problem makes the drug overdose theory seem feasible.
there's that.

I will just say that I saw him in the last few years at a show. Dude had the whitest teeth I have ever seen. And a huge smile. He seemed to be having a very good time working. Good for him.

Saw the Foo Fighters in April 2018 in the West Palm Beach Amphitheater. A small venue for them. We were 10 rows back from the stage.

They hit the stage and played for 3 hours strait barely a break.

Insane show. Amazing energy. A really fun night.

Pretty shocked to see this news. Way too young. Really sad news.

Cocaine is tough on middle-aged hearts. Early report:

A police officer said a “cocaine looking powder” was seen in the hotel room, claims Velez, while national newspaper El Tiempo reported that authorities “found hallucinogenic drugs” but “no signs of violence in the luxury hotel room.”

“Colombian authorities found: an empty beer can, an opened bottle of vodka, a Coca-Cola bottle, and some ‘other articles’ being analyzed by authorities,” Velez reported.

“The Emergency Center received a report about a patient with pain in the chest in a hotel in the north of the city,” according to a release issued Saturday by the Bogota Secretary of Health, which noted that the organization sent an ambulance to the location. “However, when the teams from the Secretary of Health arrive[d], they found another emergency responder from the company EMI. The health care professional who attended to the emergency said that he performed all re-animation maneuvers but he did not receive a response and the patient was declared dead.”

Well damn, this really sucks. The Foo Fighters inducted RUSH into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame several years ago and Taylor gave a cool speech acknowledging Neil Peart.
In a Spinal Tap kind of thought, why always the drummer????
Rock on Taylor, Rock on!!!
