907 and 908's are the same in coupe form. Engines differ. And open cars differ greatly.

I did not watch the video. I can't imagine there is much about 917's I have not read

Tires were evolving a lot each year, I think the 908 started getting wider bodywork pretty quickly. I will be happy owning either, although you could give me a 910 and I wouldn’t *****. ![]() |

Love the old Porsche sports racing cars, so much so my leaving present when I left the Ferrari race team was two books on Porsche racing cars
![]() I bumped into an old work colleague at Classic Le Mans years ago who was looking after a Gulf 917 and 908 Had a good look around both, he described the difference between the two in one sentence 917 is built with titanium bolts but the 908 is built with titanium bolts that had a hole drilled down the centre ![]() My all time favourite is the 909 BergSpyder, the uber-lightweight hill climb car, for me the perfect example of lightweight race car design and engineering ![]() Wish I could find a book about it as well written as the Wingrove 917 book ![]()

There’s surprisingly little information about the 909. There have been a few, very few, good books in the last 10 years about some of the plastic Porsches of the late 60s, certainly not enough in my opinion. That’s one legacy of the 917, it overshadowed everything that came before it.
Lots of the most fascinating Porsches have received woefully inadequate coverage in the press. Hill climbs are almost nonexistent the US, that’s one thing Europe had in spades that I wish we could have had more of. |

the cars between 906 to the 917, each car was almost like a living test prototype
they changed things from race to race almost, they rarely kept em in the same state for much longer. The BergSpyder were just nuts, they were meant to do one thing and one thing only.. a single run at raped ape speeds up the mountain. IF you think it took balls to drive the 917 monster, well, the Bergspyder probably would have left it standing, and if any time one of those would have gone off, they probably would have had to use a sieve to find all the parts and particles after it disintegrated.. there was no roll cage worth mentioning, no driver safety.. There was just enough strength to keep the engine horses and wheels together and the driver on top.. nothing more The museum has many exhibitions that change each time you go, but the Berg spider fuel sphere has always been there, it's one of their proudest moments(and craziest)

The 917-30
Quote:
The 917-30 did in fact have a boost knob in the cockpit, we had one, ran it at Rennsport 2007 917-30-006 In Bosch Livery. Alain |

Ifrom what I read. The turbo on the 917 was pretty new at the time. With the injction pumps hacked for turbo fuel delivery. Its one thing to change boost on the fly But how did the oulp adjust on the fly? Anybody who messed with mfi knows how much the system dislikes mods and changes to the specs Honest question. Not trying to be smartass. Do you have any info on how it worked?

Covers the development of the 904, 906, 907, 908, 910 race cars, not expensive too! One day I'd love to write a Wingrove style book about the 909, never written anything longer than a school essay so could make for a fun retirement project Just for balance, this was Ferrari's answer to the 909 hill climb car https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_212_E_Montagna ![]() Late 60's European Hill Climb Championships were pioneering times for race cars
