The turtle cam is dependent on my upload speed.

Depends on if there is a lower tier that offers 300 down and 40-50 up. If so you may be overpaying for a service they can't deliver at your location.

^^^ That's exactly what I am wondering about. I'm about on the end of the cable service in my area. The upload is all that I'm concerned about.
Being on the end of the service means that there is nobody beyond me to complain....so the issue goes on.

41 upload is pretty good for home needs, and even a turtle cam. Unless you go to multiple cameras and ultra HD.

How are you measuring?
I have 1000 down/40 up. When I measure from my hardwired desktop, I can get 950 down and about 45 up. I just checked my laptop, and I get 430 down and 41 up. The difference is my Wi-Fi system.

I have abut the same as James with Comcast Business. I work from home so my connection is essential. I have a 4G backup connection as well.

Centurylink fiber here claims 900down/900up I'm going to try it soon. They have to run the fiber right to the house but will do it for free.

To put things in Netflix terms, they recommend 15 Mbps for viewing UltraHD/4K content. You could watch a lot of movies simultaneously at 300 Mbps down. You would need to be pushing a lot of data to make full use of 40 Mbps up.

^^^ I'm using Speedtest by Ookla on a laptop.
Measured at various times in the two days before I called Comcast...the best upload speed was 1.14 and the best download was 61.23 Called Nest and they said the min needed for the HD cam is 1.2 upload.

How do you measure internet speed? At the computer, or at the modem or what? Generally speaking, is CATV or fiber optic faster?

39 down 11 up in Akron
Spectrum is the only service provider here. (They do offer 200 Mbps down) At least it's not DSL like my friends in Seneca PA. I should try a cable for grins to see if something else is slowing it down but I don't think I've seen much over fifty in this area for standard cable.

![]() I upload large files to our One Drive for our customers. For years we burned DVD's then used thumb drives and FedEx. Now we just click a button. I upgraded to the fastest speed Cox cable has. They call it Gigblast, but that is a lie, or pure advertising BS. I have never seen more than high 900s for download. And it is capped at 35 Mbps for upload. Just recently I downloaded aerial coverage for the entire state of Oklahoma, all 77 counties, and that was just under 60 GB. I took most of the day to download. We use it for the "base" of setting up a new flight and picking the boundaries of the new flight.

1. Computer plugged directly into the cable modem or ONT (optical network terminal). 2. Computer plugged into your router which is pllugged into the modem or ONT. 3. Computer connected to your router via wireless (WiFi) The first should give you a good idea of maximum performance. The second really shouldn't differ much from the first if your router is decent. The third will most likely vary greatly from the first two depending on band, traffic level, distance, etc.
