WTF is wrong with people???

So a client had a Supervisor murdered by an ex-employee a few weeks ago. The ex-employee just asked for Supervisor at the front desk. Cut his throat in front of the building and a good man died.

Yesterday, a client fired an employee for a drug situation. The ex-employee is a hot-headed gun nut who made believable threats. The client is hiring security and running on a skeleton crew for safety.

Tonight? I was supposed to attend a High School graduation in honor of our friend's son who passed during COVID. But, a student is alleged to have made a threatening post against the school. He was then arrested two days in a row for violent crimes. He has just been released.

I am not attending the graduation.

Is this a crazy random thing? I have NEVER had a personal experience with violent crime or the threat of violent crime in all my 56 years. My clients are legitimate and ethically run. The High School is one of the best in the state and sends kids to top-tier colleges each year.

Logic says that the statistics have randomly aligned to produce a series of disturbing events that I am slightly associated with.

Superstition says that the world is broken and everything has gone to ****.

Thoughts?

I see you are near Portland. What has changed in Portland over the past 56 years? do you have faith in local leadership, policing, and if caught, actual prosecution of criminals?

Wow…quite a streak of violence. Have seen nothing like that here. Although there was a triple murder at a gun shop about 30 miles away a few weeks ago.

Portland has BAD homeless and poor leadership currently. It isn't a Portland thing. Different topic altogether...

Seems to me that last sentence is a major part of the problem. How many times have we heard about people being released after threatening behaviour only to carry out their threats. Not tryiing to PARF this.

People have been pissed for quite awhile. But acting and talking like a lunatic has now had the ultimate stamp of approval so nearly anything goes as long as it garners attention.

Can't completely answer without sending

in morality that started about 60 years ago
it is gaining steam and near critical mass

The rise and maturation of Hatestream Media delivers a daily dose of hate and fear and victimization to a very broad swath of the American public.

"You aren't where you should be because X and Y are taking what's yours and they're going to take everything over and you will be left with nothing."

People eat it up. And some break. They kill people.

^^^This certainly contributes.

I don't consume ANY television outside of Netflix. And the TV news? Damn. I would rather my children watched porn. "News" is fear-mongering.

But I think the above is more than people being baited into hate / fear.

I wonder if the long COVID situation has broken social bonds and norms. Oregon was far more locked down than most of the country. It messed with people. Maybe more than I realized. And the last two months have had endless rain...

I could tell you, but then this thread would be in PARF

Spoiler alert, it is the second thing

The deal with all the kids going off the deep end has a LOT to do with all the psychotropic drugs they are given.

I was born in 1970. Raised in EO on a cattle ranch..Baker City, but it was just called Baker the whole time I lived there, they changed the name while I was away.. Full-on cow town. Graduated in 1989. I went from the Bad News Bears, Smokey and the Bandit, to Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galatica.. I was a teen for MTV and it was a game changer. Arcades ruled. In the hick town I was raised in we for real had our shotguns in our lockers during hunting season. I didn't know anybody who wanted to shoot up the school.

The best I can come up with is this same thing happened in Rome when they started to fall as the super power. Prolly same thing as Britain..blaw blaw the sun never sets on the British empire til it doesn't right? It's important to mention yer age in this as maybe we can narrow down when starts?

Generations after 2009 seem to have really lost it.. I retired in 2009 and 18 year olds then seem fine?-WW

My company will not do travel to Portland or Seattle (King county) without exception of a senior VP now.

edit: we have other cities blocked off as well.

We spent last weekend in Portland as we’re trekking around the pnw for a couple weeks. Homelessness was bad but only marginally worse than I’ve seen in Houston or other big US cities. The majority of these people just seem crazy. Not sure why it’s worse. Did we used to just lock them all up in hospitals? If so, I guess that’s not affordable anymore.

I do wonder if it’s worse or do we just know about it more. I’ve know some otherwise good people do some really bad things in my 55 years on earth and some bad things I know family members did before I was born so it’s not all recent.
