24%! That's all I can say right now.

Scott Douglas 07-08-2022 07:16 AM

With dust to breathe too!

herr_oberst 07-08-2022 09:07 AM

I'm old school; not a huge fan of the yellow shorts.

Not sure what you mean but I had a similar reaction when my Rugby club gave up white shorts for black.

herr_oberst 07-08-2022 03:39 PM

Both Wout vanAert and Tadej Pogačar have embraced wearing "short jaune" along with the "maillot jaune" - I'm old school and prefer classic black shorts.

20% is ridiculous, 24% I've never climbed that steep - can't imagine. I wonder how fast they are going at that point - 10mph?

Agree.

Bunch of wankers.

You don't see LeMond wearing any of those lame yellow knickers........

I couldn't find the stat but watching it live I'd say that is a good guess. However, Pogacar is capable of very dynamic bursts at the most improbable times. Dudes a heartbreaker.

Keep in mind that the 24% grade was the very end of the stage and in the dirt.

Baz 07-09-2022 07:17 AM

OOF!

Goosebumps. Don't get em often from Tour finishes, but that one was good. Wout is a Merckx like talent. Well, echos anyway.

Crazy finish - but his strategy worked to stay behind the others on the incline and then charge in the end when it got flatter. That's just textbook & how it's done.

Respect to Aussie Michael Matthews for being in the hunt at the end --- twice so far! And against generational talent, as was said by the commentators.

Hooray for Wouter. A good old Belgian boy winning a stage in the Tour.:)

I dislike any other color but black shorts. I do like white or other color shoes. I have had too many black shoes in years past. In the past 15 or so years, its all been white with one pair of red and several grays

Baz 07-10-2022 08:30 AM

Good to have you on here, Jeff! Keep posting at will, please. My first cycling shoes were white Shimanos, BTW - and served me well!

Another fantastic stage! Rest day tomorrow and then a brutal stage 10 with a heat wave in the forecast along with the usual suffering on the climbs....

Consideration of the Lanterne Rouge will be coming up in a few more stages:

matthewb0051 07-12-2022 06:05 AM

FYI if you are watching on USA network. Thursday and Friday coverage will be on Peacock due to The Open at St Andrews. They will have an encore (hmmm, like the old days on NBCSN) at 3pm on USA.

Now get back to watching.

flatbutt 07-12-2022 06:13 AM

Protestors on the route have stopped the stage today.

Baz 07-12-2022 06:17 AM

Yeah....peaceful protestors! :D

Thanks, Matthew - appreciate the head's up! That will work out great for me as I can get other stuff done in those mornings and then relax and enjoy the tour in the afternoon in the A/C! :)
