Don't worry Steve. The swelling should subside in a few weeks.

< edit >

not sure why I quoted the part that's now in green. Brain fart, I guess.

It's feeling a lot better already. My upper lip has some feeling again.

Tomorrow, weather providing, I'm looking to find that wasp and teach him a lesson.

Way back when I was about 20, I had a yellow jacket decide to take a sip of my beer from inside the can. Didn't know he was there until I took a sip. About the time I was wondering what this fuzzy thing between my lower lip and my teeth were POW! he hit me on the inside of the lower lip. Ended my drinking for the day.

We need a new law...no bee/wasp beer infringement or death.

I was walking a lot for a new house one day with a coworker and walked towards a tree. Looking at the hollow spot at the base, I said this is a great place for…BEEEESS!

They were not in the tree, but in a ground nest about 8 feet away from it. I ran as fast as I could, tripping, falling/rolling multiple times trying to get away. I got stung 15 times and it wasn’t fun. As I ran, a guy jumped in his truck, close the door and rolled up the window! Thanks buddy! After that, I was deathly afraid of bees for years. Well, I still don’t like them.

During their time of the year, we have lots around here. If you try to eat outside, they're all over you. I put out a trap with attractant to reduce the numbers.

If you get angry, don't shoot at them. I mean don't shoot at hives etc.

As a little boy with a .22 I found out this wasn't a good idea. The bees won.

Was at the family reunion yesterday and pot luck food was laid out around the perimeter of a big pavilion kitchen. I could describe it better but the food was outside. On a cold cut plate was a yellow jacket laying on it's side with legs wrapped around a slice of roast beef chowing down on it like a caterpillar chews on a leaf.

You can make a natural repellant that isn't harmful, but bees/wasps hate.

Spearmint, cinnamon, or wintergreen oil; cayenne pepper; and soap.

Spray it around the area you want them to stay away from, and they will. It'll also kill them if you spray them directly.

Got up this am and looked in the mirror.
The lip swelling was down...but my cheek (face) looked like it was full of chewing tobacoo.
It was drooped down to almost my chin.
The venom must have traveled to that area.

It's now almost back to normal.

Follow up to my post above. I had a bad dream last night, where I was being attacked by bees. Funny (not really) how often that happens, after I’ve seen or read something about bees, 25 years after the yellow jacket incident.

A group of us whacked a yellowjacket hive next to the sidewalk in elementary school. A railroad tie wall.
I ran but but another guy didn't move fast enough.
He got over half a dozen stings and it was not a good situation. Ambulance called.

I remember watching grandma in full gear spraying a hornets nest a hundred yards down the way, at the canoe shed in the woods down next to the lake.
Out of the blue....one "zzz" nailed me between the eyes.

One fine late summer day I was pushing the mower over a nest of them ground bees we called ‘em.

Wham! X 3 on my leg smacked ‘em off then I started running and Whamagain! X2. Lips went numb. Then MYWHOLEBODY went into hyper itchybody mode.

Chief Sandwicher was taking her good ole time lollygagging and mozying down the road taking me to the ER until I asked her quite calmly why isn’t her foot buried in the floor, you want me to die IN YOUR CAR?

Think anaphylactic shock.

In the ER being pumped up with adrenaline and steroids and whatnot and about the time my throat closed up, I started to cry thinking I’m not gonna see my kids again when all of a sudden I felt completely normal, like I was dead.

But I wasn’t.

Doc had already said to Sandwicher I was close and to pray or whatever she thought was appropriate for times like these. Because if I didn’t snap out of it in the next few seconds, I never would.

This airplane looks like a big wasp stung it on the nose.

As a kid I was super allergic to just a honey bee sting. I was stung on my tip of my little finger and my entire arm swelled up like a sausage.

I hope you are still recovering, and getting better. Maybe switch to bottled beer, and you can see what is in the bottle before you put it to your mouth.

Your experience sounds like something out of a comedy movie. It reminds me of the scene in Hitch when Will Smith has an allergic reaction.

Do you carry an epi pen with you now in the summer?
