Quick, What >10 Round Mags To Get?

If your state was going to ban purchases of magazines exceeding 10 rounds capacity, and you were inclined to stock up on said magazines for guns you don't currently own but might be inclined to own in future . . .

Which magazines would you go and buy? I am pretty well stocked with AR, FN-FAL, Glock 9mm magazines already.

10/22 or other rimfire stuff. Maybe AR stuff in various calibers - I have a dozen AR15 223 mags but no 223 AR - mine are both 762x39 (or 9mm or 22lr). If you think a 9mm AR might be fun, then a Endomag adapter or two to turn a 30rnd PMag into a 9mm mag.

I hadn't thought of the 10/22 or the AR in non-223. I will get some of those, they are pretty cheap. For pistols I am more of a C&R guy, which means high-capacity magazines are not that relevant. Just not many C&R pistols held more than 10 rounds. I did pick up some Browning HiPower mags, also a few "new FN High Power" mags for the heck of it. For large carry, I'm pretty set with Glock 17 and 19, Para P13 mags, and most small carry is 10 rd or under anyway. For rifles and carbines I picked up some Steyr AUG, FN PS90, and some AR15 223 30rd. Weirdly enough, I am thinking about getting some Thompson SMG and similar WW2 subgun magazines. No, I can't afford a real Thompson - but if someday I can, I sure don't want to be looking at a dummy magazine in it.

We are probably also going to a system where you have to take a training class (gun safety, marksmanship, legal, etc) to get a permit to purchase guns.

Since it may take some time (months?) to get the training class, intructor certification, permit issuance, etc stuff set up, I may "have" to quickly buy a spoon or two, before the measure passes. Shopping now . . .

Your state may also ban owning more than 10 round mags. Buy what you can use.

Buy what you want. Just don't take your large capacity mags to the range after they ban them.

A permit to purchase a gun, really. I don't see that getting past a judge even one time. Do not buy cheap magazines. Your rifle won't like them.

Presumably people will be buying high capacity magazines in other states, bringing them back, and claiming to have owned them since pre ban. That might work, but I'm going to stay legit and buy them now, have the documentation, etc.

Might also grab a few mags for stuff you don't own or even plan on owning but other people will - like AK mags, HK 91/G3 mags (they used to be $1 each...) etc.

AR is not so finicky about magazines, Magpul is a nice product

Mini 14 or 10-22 does not dig some of the aftermarket magazines. Higher capacity magazines seem to be more prone to jamming. Maybe the bigger spring or something, even the 20 vs 30 round magazines for the Mini are like that, 20 round fed better. 30 sticks down to much to shoot prone also, which matters to me.

Most mags don't have any kind of serial, batch or lot number or date code. There's no way to prove when it was bought, even if you have paperwork. Unless it's some design that came after the ban went into effect, I'd continue to order to my heart's content and just have them sent to a friend out of state and get them from him later.

Not gonna be transferring high cap mags, even to my best buds. Working in financial services, shiny new C&R license, not going to risk anything. They can see the writing on the wall and take pre-emptive action, or not. But I like the idea of HK mags.

Any guesses what? Hint: it only holds 5 rounds, has no safety, and is in 22LR.

I bought one of those 10 round "banana" mags at the local gun shop. I think it was Magpul. When loaded the spring is only 1/3 depressed, stopped by a little plastic piece protruding inside. I snapped that little piece off and I'll be darned if I couldn't get 20 rounds in there.
