To say he still has his dignity is an understatement. But at 78 years old (and most of those were hard miles) he’s dumped the heavy Indian too many times now, and can’t pick it up by himself. He lives in SC and rides more than he drives, and wants to continue to do so. I’ve convinced him this is the route to go and it keeps him “out of a cage” and on his own bike. The higher-end kits are about $10k all in. Of course you use your own bike. With the amount of used HD hitting the classifieds, you could probably get a perfect candidate for well under $10k.

LMK if you want to go this route and I’d be happy to help you knock it out over a few weekends. I’m in NY just across the TZB from NW NJ.

Thank you Ken, I will keep your kind offer in mind. I haven't completely given up yet.

You might see if any Shriners in your area are selling one? HD gives us a good deal on them like once a year, some guys just like to have newer trikes.

Yep... What a generous offer. Like Byron says .... there's gotta be lots of used trikes out there that become available over time. Keep your eyes open and search daily....

It took me six months of daily searching to locate my 911 .... found it on Rennlist the day the guy in Hoboken listed it. But that was 20 years ago and it isn't pink :D.

Happy searching and good luck!

I have seen several used trikes in my area. Many are 28-30K$. I've inspected a couple of older ones (2014,15, 17) that were down around 20K but they were rats(ish). Pitted chrome, oxidized aluminum, very worn seats and rubber bits. Just didn't look like they were cared for.

The older bikes don't have the linked brake system of the newer ones which is absolutely perfect for me as it negates the need for me to customize the hand controls.

Once you decide exactly what you want.... mebbe expand your search.... It's out there!

Fly & Ride? My minty '88 was a NY garage queen... 500 (s)miles to get her down here :).

Or use the PPOT network....

If you want heat and a/c....:D

That's hilarious, if it's real. It must handle like a shopping cart.

Forgive me if this is too personal for a forum response but if I'm understanding correctly, you do not have use of your feet and you've been riding regular motorcycles up until now?

I do NOT mean for this to be disrespectful, you can tell me to get lost if you want...just baffled by it. Thanks.

No disrespect perceived by me. I do have use of my legs though my right leg is much weaker than my left, I have foot drop on that side and it is impacted by spasticity. My handicap is more severe in my upper body and my right arm is the most severely impacted. The muscular spasticity keeps me from straightening my right arm and my right hand is always curled into a fist.

It's hard to describe exactly how this impacts my riding to someone fully able but suffice to say that I have become increasingly vulnerable to just plain falling over on off-camber or gravel covered ground. All is good while rolling but in towns while going slow or worse stop and go traffic raises unholy heck with me. Especially with luggage.

speeder 10-16-2022 06:50 AM

Thanks, I can't even imagine. A fully able person can easily drop a bike on a gravel road, especially at low speed. Bikes are gyroscopes and the minute the friction is gone between the tires and whatever they are on, all bets are off. Maybe the MotoGP riders can power slide them at high speed but I need traction and some forward movement. As I get older and my balance decreases, even getting off the bike can be risky sometimes.

You have enormous courage to power through such a disability and insist on living life on your terms. I'm really impressed.++

flatbutt 10-16-2022 09:26 AM

Thanks man. I owe it all to an unreasonably defiant attitude. :D

Have you considered one of these?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1665943846.jpg
Back to the Shrine bikers , out fraternity is aging out, and since the bikes are mainly used for parades,

And it is Biketoberfest in Daytona so things will be listed.

What do you HD fans think of the price on this one? I will negotiate but hoping 22.5 gets it.

I see nothing embarrassing about a trike and I don't have the strength to manage a hack. I've tried.

Hey Tom,
Increased steering effort at slow speeds may be an issue for you. Also, of the few Trikes I have ridden at the shop, all of them were prone to head shake on deceleration. Perhaps that could be tuned out by playing with suspension and tire pressure, but you really need to try one before buying if possible.

Good luck with your search of a bike to ride that makes you feel comfortable. I have seen a pseudo trike conversion that was basically training wheels on a small frame that bolted to the bike worked quite well, as you could keep your same bike and was not as hard to steer as a full on trike.

I've seen a bunch of those. They look like trikes, but from behind initially you're looking at it thinking "what the heck is going on?"

I have a small amount of GSK stock left from my days of gainful employment. Over the summer it hit a new high and the fund was worth almost 29K. Apparently the company has hit a rocky shoal and the stock is down 60%! So, it was not meant to be.

Thanks for all of the input gang. As always your opinions are appreciated.

I'm bummed, but I'm sure things will turn around and the universe will hook you up!
