This seems like a reasonable price. Good value all around!

Silly now, but after an EMP, in a zombie apocalypse, it'll start...

It will right ? Just a coil and points, nothing electronic that I recall...

I agree. Immaculate example that only went for $205K....that's a freaking steal...especially in this day and age of inflation!

Ours in 1961, when were still living in Norfolk.....my older brother at the wheel. We took it across country!

Here's an un-restored "budget" example......19.5 hours left and sitting at only $30K

$205k seems cheap.
These were $150k in 2015.

People have lost their frigging minds over these microbuses.

I figured it out. Its actually a great deal. Its a california thing. Like the cheapest house in california. You have to live in it all the time but its super trendy and cool. My buddy knows of one in the woods probably nothing left of it. He claims he already owns it. I dont know what model it is and neither does he im sure but he says its a split window. I said bring it over. Probably worth 50k as it is I told him

All of the panels are available for those, Sonjay's son has literally built a "Brand New " split window bus, and some of his builds have been featured not only in VW magazines, but at SEMA too. Here is one Sonjay picked up for Jay to build.

I had one.. Sadly not a 23 window sunroof though, but I was proud and loved the old bus.

A member here recently bought this bus, one of the coolest ever built.

The one in the OP is a top-flight, best of show type bus. I did not read through the comments but there was probably at least two collectors with very deep pockets competing for it. There are guys putting together collections via BaT who have set aside a few million for cars and a $200k purchase is just the least expensive thing they are going to buy. It is nuts but that is the state of personal wealth in the world in 2022.

Nice bus.

I DID read through the comments and these guys give Corvette or 69 Camaro restorers a run for the money when it comes to pointing out the "flaws" during the restoration. The 'wrong' trim buttons, a missing coat hook, the 'wrong' finish on the underside, the wrong engine lid latch...a non popular color...perfed headliner instead of black dot headliner...sheesh. Made my head hurt.

And someone still thought it was worth 205, plus 5%, plus shipping. (220 all day or so?)

OMG If I knew they were one day going to be worth that sort of money I wouldn't have driven mine at 50mph onto rocky riverbeds and done jumps with it.

Yeah, it's a really nice bus. I'd just rather drive the GT3 😃
I sold a split windscreen, 21 window 15 years ago. Floor gone, body rusted away to your knees, no interior, glass broken, etc. I didn't think it was salvageable but a restorer I know was thrilled to get it. A year later it was beautiful and sold for 75K. I'm sure that bus is worth twice that now

That van is the text book reason why some classic cars are only going one way in value... They're cool and people like them because often they have great childhood memories in one.

My uncle in Europe bought a VW windowless bus back in the late 60s... 3 motors, 2 gearboxes plus countless repairs later he still drives it most days.

Yeah, back in the day they always seemed to come with a spare motor or something.

I used mine as a bit of stunt vehicle. Quite good fun and never rolled.

30 something years ago I knew an electrician who told me he didn't put oil in his VW bus because if he did it would leak... LOL

That bus is just a classic example of a the tulip bulbs. Hard to argue with the fact someone paid 205K for it, but it will just sit in a museum and never be driven except off of a trailer to a spot at a car show.

Anyone that has ever driven on old bus, or even ridden in one will know it is a painful slow, scary ride. No AC, poor heat, lots of wind noise, but some people think they look cool.

My brother bought a 71 VW Westafalia camper for $600 in 1974 and it had a blown engine. He figures he has had over 100 deer on it's roof from deer hunting. It hauled his two boys to school, and he does not remember if it has 400K or 500K plus miles as it rolled over so many times it did not matter. It was totaled when the tow pin broke and it came free from his motorhome. He found another 71 Camper that he calls "sequel" but it has lots of little problems he will have to fix. His old one had everything fixed and worked great. Many issues were fixed many times over the years and miles.
