Where to sell a late model used car these days?

I haven’t sold a “regular” late model used car in a while.
My last few cars I’ve sold on BaT, but those were Porsches etc.
And many years ago I sold daily drivers on Craigslist or AutoTrader, but at least CL seems outdated.
Looking to sell a Tesla Model 3.
(And I know Carmax etc is an option. I’ll probably get an offer from them to get an idea of value).
So where do people sell things like that these days?

Seems as if getting it listed on autotrader.com or cargurus.com would work ... I just used cargurus to find one for my parents.

The last few cars we've sold off I used Carmax. So much easier to just take the hit $ wise than to waste time with looky lou's on CL or AutoTrader. On one of our mini vans I told my wife what they would offer before going in. Got exactly that much and it blew her away that I could do that. On her old Mustang I was just willing to get rid of that car for any amount. It had become a real PITA to me.
When our daughter and son-in-law moved to Japan they sold off their Accord and F-150 for fair prices to them. As long as you remember they are in the biz of making money off the purchase you'll be ok.

I just sold a car on CL, worked out pretty well. Only got a few hits but one of them bought it. No hassle to speak of.

I sell all my cars myself. The dealers, including Carmax, have to make a profit when turning them. The difference is usually 6K to 8K. I take care of my vehicles, put an extra coat of shine on them when selling, lot's of pictures and good description. List on Autotrader, gone in 48 hours.

How late model is it? I had really good luck with Carvana on a Wrangler I wanted to get rid of.

Depends on your level of patience with strangers. The market is still hot, clean late model vehicles ( most) bring top dollar. It's a sellers advantage currently. Shouldn't take to much effort to get it sold privately. Retail joints like CarMax offer wholesale pricing, not trade-in value. In this hot market, there is substantial margin between wholesale & retail ( corporate) pricing.

I recently sold my 2016 Audi S3. I had it on Auto Trader for months with nothing but flakes offering me 1/2 of what KBB said it was worth. Spotless, no accident car, original owner and fully serviced with no issues, new tires, etc. The windshield was new, the front bumper had been repainted from rock damage along with a new grill surround. Nothing to worry about and the car looked brand new with clear bra since new on the entire front end with a full hood wrap.

I was having my septic system serviced and the service guy sees it covered in my garage next to my 2 other cars and asks what it is. I tell him, uncover it and he snaps a few pictures. That night he calls and comes back with his wife and they buy it for the asking price.

5 weeks later he calls and says he went to the local Audi dealership as his wife wanted to trade it for a '22 S5 sedan. He said the salesman told him the car had been badly wrecked and would only offer him $15K for it and then they would send it off to auction. He accepted their offer and drove the new S5 home. I tell him the car was never wrecked, never hit, and like I told him it had the front bumper repainted, grill surround and windshield replaced from rock damage on the freeway. I told him he should have called me when he was at the dealership. I felt bad for him and for my car as it was spotless. I keep all my cars like that.

^^^ I would arrange a meeting with the salesman...with the guy that bought your car.
If the guy doesn't want to go there...I would question his story.

I sold my 2013 Miata prht on Autotrader. It took me two years to sell it. First bid was too low and the next one was close to the asking price.

Wait...it took two years to sell a car?? As in, it was two model years older when you sold it then when you began the process? That must be a typo...it's never taken me 2 weeks to sell a vehicle.

Over the last few years I have had good luck with FB Marketplace, Cargurus, and on consignment at a local dealer.

I got a quote from Carmax 3 times and always managed to beat their wholesale offer by $4-5k. They offered $14k for my 2014 Toyota Prerunner V6 and it sold quickly for $18k. It was at least a useful wholesale appraisal for comparison.

My SOL buys new Teslas and flips them quickly at a significant profit due to demand and wait times so your car should go quickly at the right price.
