My friends and I had alot of fun when we were young playing the scratch offs at the supermarket. We would have a few drinks and ride out bikes all over town. My best friend looked young so they always gave him a hard time. I remember once like 5 employees came out to anylize his license he was older than all of us. We would buy like 5 or 10 bucks in tickets each person go out on a park bench and scratch. We always had some winners so had to keep going in for more tickets. Somtimes we were there for hours. Lots of laughs and excitement we probably never won more than 10 bucks or so. Then we got a casino we went a time or two but it was no fun just playing slots with all the old people.

If i could clap my hands and people would stop gambling i would.
Ive got friends that visit casinos and they say ‘aww but its fun’, ‘and this one time…’ They talk about the times they won big, some sort of mystical experience. I cant understand what people see in it. Like im made of stone, or like a french person watching monty python. I just see the numbers and gamblers are all giant losers. I dont mean poker or other skill games, but a lottery ticket? I think it must be a symptom of a disease. Guy gave me a dollar once to play a slot at the nevada border. Go in at 11pm on a tuesday and these zombie are puffing away in this dark room pullin those levers. Put the coin in and it was over before i knew what happened. Friend says ‘awww! Its WAY more fun when you win’ |

I saw a friend at the supermarket the other day and he said he'd just had a lotto win. About $300. I said wow, and my biggest win in 50 years was $70. He had previously won about $200,000. He said he has a system. I know where he goes dog walking each morning... So if I'm a little late in giving you good information on how to fix your car/love life/finances bear with me. I'll be back but a little richer.

One of our clients was just like that. Always bragging on the big payouts he won. Then one day, he was bankrupt, and his wife divorced him. He never mentions the many times that he lost. When we we were in French Lick, IN, we were waiting for a group drive and I had a few minutes to spare. I went into the casino that smelled like a giant ash tray, and reeked of cigarette smoke. I want to throw away 5 bucks on a slot machine. I had to go to the cashier and get a plastic card to play the slot machine. So they make it seem like it is not money. I pulled the handle and my 5 bucks was gone, and I could not get out off that stinky hell hole fast enough. There is a full blown horse racing track and casino just 5.2 miles from my house. In 35 years I have been there twice, shortly after they opened.

"Gambling is a business. If you're not in the business, don't do it." -Ron E. Madaio
Good advice from a departed board member here.

I look at it as being no different than buying a stock for financial gain.
If you risk only what you can afford to lose...why not? I play it occasionally, but the money I spend on it is a drop in the bucket compared to my needs. If it's fun...do it. I'm trying my best to leave penniless.

^^^ At least he can't blow the rest of his winnings while sitting in jail.
![]() Yesterday, I tried to buy a couple scratch offs from my local Meijer. She ripped off a couple and I inserted my CC....machine wouldn't accept it. Gal told me that credit cards won't work for Lotto....has to be cash or debit card. ![]() Strange rule. I walked out with no purchase...I've never owned a debit card and rarely carry cash. I guess it was meant to be.
