I am a huge fan and he was one of my influences as a guitarist. Nobody played like he did.

He came to Pomona on tour about 10 years ago, I got tix and realized that we were running the California Festival of Speed that weekend. Knowing he was a huge car guy I sent him a note and offered to give him a spin in the Porsche around AAA Super Speedway in the afternoon. I never heard back but it would have been fun.

Jeff Beck was the Salvador Dali of guitar, to see him play was to hear the ultimate 6 string alchemist create magic in a world of its own. With his passing, the world is a poorer place. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Sandra. We share your sorrow.

Only saw him once, but it was memorable. Back in 1969, The Jeff Beck Group played the Schaefer Music Festival in NYC's Central Park. Tickets were just $3. On vocals, with his wild hair and pink jumpsuit, was a then-little-known singer named Rod Stewart. This was shortly before he joined The Faces and a couple years before Every Picture Tells a Story put him on the map.

I met Jeff Beck when I was 17 and I was glad to know a guy like that, a guy who was able to show me how this guitar playing thing should be approached and that’s still very much the case. Jeff was a wondrous soul and we already miss him tremendously.
