Funny thing I've noticed about crowns

Had one let loose while chewing gum last week. The gum stuck...the crown didn't.

Dentist will look at it next week. Why don't these things stick?

Tobra 02-10-2023 01:42 PM

I think they make them out of materials that are not so sticky, or else it would be a problem eating.

JB weld and a dremel...

Racerbvd 02-10-2023 02:09 PM

I have a temporary crown right now, until I get a root canal
In another week (been waiting a month) and wed evening, it came out, so yesterday morning I call my dentist 1st thing (8am) and they tell me to come right down.
Not long I am out and go about my day, being very careful and not eating, then around 7pm, grabbed a bite, something soft and not sticky.
Well, it came out again last night so I had to go back this morning as have it fixed again
Of course I told the cute little technician who fixed it that the thing a guy will do to get her fingers in my mouth :Dhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676070527.jpg

I have a temp crown right now too and it came off last night while flossing. Underneath hurts like hell. Went to the dentist to have it reinstalled. Can’t wait for the Permanent in two weeks. Going gold as it’s a molar. I’m gonna be a rapper.

I need to buy some better attachments for my dremel. I'll check it out tomorrow.

Byron....that doesn't look like a crown? Is it a piece of a tooth?

stevej37 02-10-2023 03:09 PM

It looks like a chipped off tooth.

No, temp crown that the dentist made.
Sadly, some of the medications that the docs have had me on made my teeth bridle and over the years have cracked a few.

Honest question-
If the dentist was not the one who placed the crown, and there is a history of crowns falling off, ask him why it fell off.

Bonus points round x100,000-
If the dentist was the one who placed the crown, and it keeps falling off, tell him you shared this concern on a certain car website named after birds, and those on said car website request intraoral pictures of the crown prep before they recement it to determine axial wall height and convergence angles on prep. :)

In the end, there are a bunch of reasons permanent crowns fall off. Chewing gum ain't one of them.

Either way, you will have your answer:D:D:D:D

Byron, quick, go chew on some gum to knock the temp off again and go have the technician put it back on.

And send us pics of the technician.

My dentist would understand...he would ask for a link to the website. :)

Just popped out an hour ago. An artifact of having 4 wisdom teeth removed on Monday. Getting some JB Weld tomorrow.

Well, for some unknown reason, I have issues with crowns staying in place. I have had one other crown and it didn't like me from the git go, twice, it came out by the time I got out of the parking lot, Temps, then the permanent one was installed and a week late I swallowed it
After that, I have not had any problems with it. Like I said, this temp had lasted over a month. She says that some people's teeth are just harder to bond too. But then again, medically, it seems like nothing ever works like on other people.

I swear, I see so much of this everyday, it's amazing ;), but, out of the thousands of crowns I have prepped, very few have fallen off. The few of mine that have come off (a handful), there has always been a extenuating circumstance that falls into a not so normal category. You should totally share this with him if you guys get along.

Temporary crowns are a little more hit or miss. I wouldn't read as much into those

Now for the juicy stuff- I still want to see Byron's dental technician.

( Bryon- I think you've been riding the PK ripper's too hard. not some bonding issue :))

Shaun- kindly take a picture of the crown bottom side up so inquiring minds can look within. Thanks. R

Like I said, only once did a permanent crown, and I was having a coughing fit and swallowed it (good thing I got the warranty one) but the Temps gave me issues.
Do worry, I will get a picture of her, either next time I go in or when we go shooting.

Popcorn is the worst thing for teeth.
If you are chowing down on a bowl of pc..slow down.

Biting into an un-popped kernal will take a tooth out.
And I love popcorn.

Tobra 02-10-2023 04:00 PM

JB Weld is no good for this sort of thing, you want cyanoacrylate and baking soda.

Dude, I have a TON of bits that fit the dremel. I have some side cutting burrs made for bone. Will go through the hardest wood like butter.

stevej37 02-10-2023 04:03 PM

^^^ I'm looking for grinding wheels that will make a smooth surface for the teeth when eating steaks.
